You will notice that this was not a big Photokina as far as announcements go.
2014 was also a slow year for Photokina. The Canon 7D Mark II was about the best. The industrie is in financial and technical stress for some years now.

Interesting..... Pentax gets dinged by not having new announcements at Photokina, but a large number of the other vendors announcements were for products available last month..

Pentax should have just re-announced and they'd be in parity then, eh?

@Mistral75 Relative to the number of items in most of these companies' catalogs those really aren't large numbers of products. Fuji, of course, is comparatively aggressive - new body and lenses announced, but many with 12 month and longer release horizons. I suppose the variances for Ricoh are: they've just released two camera bodies and a new mount technology; and they've chosen (for whatever reason) not to announce any further bodies or lenses.

I think it likely they will make major announcements with close-dated releases in February and just drop things out of the sky when no one is looking. That seems to be their recent pattern.

Lens announcements by smaller companies were comparatively pretty impressive.

I guess the question is what Pentax has announced/released this year. What I recall is that they have released the K-1, the K70, and the DFA *70-200 and DFA 15-30, the new 55-300 and the DFA 28-105. I think the DFA 35 for the 645 system was released this year, as well.

Certainly it isn't a huge list of gear, but certainly, it is decent for the size company that Pentax is.

Photokina will always be smaller than it used to be. Simply put, the giants of the show were Kodak,Fuji and Agfa with Ilford in a very nice B&W niche market,. And this was for film an paper. Kodak and Fuji always had a bunch of new consumer model cameras to show each year too. And in several formats. For cameras, at one time it was Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus, Miranda, Chinon, Hasselblad, Leica, Bronica, Rolliflex, Agfa and God knows how many other brands. Field and studio large format cameras. Jobo with home processing equipment. Film enlargers and darkroom setups etc. And don't forget the movie industry.

Now most of the amateur photo market has been replaced by a cell phone. We are capturing several times more images that we every have. I also would bet that there are more images deleted off of digital recording devices of all types each week that were taken in a year in 1996. in 1991 I took the family on a 5 week cross country trip and came back with 33 rolls of slide film for my efforts. That was a lot of images for the day. My least used DSLR, (K5) is 4 years old hand had that many images taken with it. My 3 1/2 month old K1 has has captures more images that that. Most of them in just 6 days.

Kodak Processing Labs is gone along with almost all large commercial film processing and printing labs. Photokina used to be THE big show in a large industry. Now it is the big show of a much smaller and much changed business. In July I took two of my adult sons to Yellowstone. One was into photography at one time and I offered him the use of my K3. He declined, He preferred to use his cell phone. Heck even I used my phone for a few pictures. I do love the panorama mode in iPhones.

hahaha... maybe, maybe not.

Back when CP+ 2016 was around were there not folks on here saying 'wait for the summer and Photokina for all the new FF lens announcements'.. now that Photokina is here we are looking at the next CP+ ? I'd be perfectly fine with that, given they seem to value CP+ more these days, if there was any indication at Photokina that they are working on any new lenses...

Does PF have someone there for the typical interview? I'd love to read what (if any) insight Ricoh Imaging have to share about the not-so-distant future of their lineup.

Who said that? The roadmap was pretty clear: "2017 or later".

I'm not naming names, because I don't want to make it out to be a witch hunt. But some of the active names in this very thread saying wait for 2017 were saying new lenses in 2016.

Yes and no.

More serious issue is that they do not know how to entertain and excite people, educate them, show them that tools they make are still outstanding workmanship, and that it is a good habit to grab a proper camera and go out and make as many pictures as possible.

It relieves stress. That part of our lives, when even a noob can feel creative and outside the stressful loop of life (smartphones are amplifier of stress), is becoming more and more important.

Good photography tools are now more important than before. One can spend thousand$ visiting different doctors or psychiatrists, or one can get a camera, stretch legs, stretch spinal muscles, breathe fresh air, and go hiking / walking.

Some of our purported insiders were saying 2016 would be the year of lenses. I wonder whether pushing back the 70~200 pushed the entire Roadmap back?
