For sure, projected MSRP given by Mistral are anything but unrealistic.
There definitely will be numerous buyers, if that normal ultrawide prime sells under 1800€.
Don't forget FF is no APS-C... and such a price range is close to the existing f/2.8 zooms.

while companies die because over ambitius, the lack of that is equally bad.
Indeed; but then, there's a solution: to have exactly the right degree of ambition - not too much, not too little

But they didn't say #1... that would be over-ambitious! (or #4 DSLR company, that would be an extreme lack of ambition )

On the moment they are on the last spot, so a long way to go.

How do you calculate that?

Value for money, they are FIRST by a country mile.....bang for buck is the reason for lots to buy the system.

They are FIRST in the niche market of DSLRs, First for innovative features,First for ruggedness of build quality...the list goes on.

Sheer numbers, who cares!

With Canikony being "up there" numbers wise doesn't mean much to people who don't like their product or prices, just ask the people who buy M43/Fuji/Pentax.

Theres numerous systems to get good stills or video from.....However, no perfect camera yet!

Fuji did the right with their Pro Lenses. There is no compromise, buy it or leave it and that's the right solution in this time. The time everyone wanted "a big DSLR" is over and no one cares anymore for cheap plastic fantastic. Quality is the answer to the market and i hope that Pentax is ready for this, because they are the only ones who are playing on three different systems (APS-C , FF and Medium Format) and they have to deliver !

And I'm waiting for the replacement of the K-3 / II. Something with the smooth shutter of the 645Z/K1, max. 28/30 MPix without AA , FlipScreen and a simple Battery Slot that contains simple AA batteries instead of special Batteries.

That means they would have to overtake either Sony, Nikon or Canon. Which one will it be? I think I no the answer: none of them

More seriously and to put things into perspective, here below the MSRPs of the recently introduced 50mm f/1.4 and related 24x36 autofocus lenses:
  • July 2016: Sony Zeiss Planar T* FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA - $1,499
  • May 2016: Samyang AF 50mm F1.4 FE - $699
  • October 2015 - Leica Summilux-SL 50mm f1.4 Asph - $5,295
  • January 2014: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art - $949
  • October 2013: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G - $1,699.95
  • February 2013: Sony Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZA SSM - $1,499

So, what would you prefer to pay:
  • $349 for a smc Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4
  • $599 for a smc Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited
  • $799 for a HD Pentax-D FA 45mm f/1.8 SDM WR (rebadged Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 Di USD, MSRP = $599)
  • $999 to $1,299 for an HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 DC WR
  • or $1,499 to $1,799 for an HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.2 DC WR?
Aren't you the same guy that said we were getting primes announced at Photokina?

To be honest, if Sony buy Nikon, they will be the third DSRL manufacturer by default.

Close, but not the same as the third leading brand

They already are third.... Canon, Nikon, Pentax that's it. (Not counting larger formats).

Only for DSLR. Pentax wants to be the third ILC brand by market share, I believe, which means they're up against Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji, to name the bigger ones. If they want to become number 3 they'd have to beat either one of the big three, Canon, Nikon and Sony.
