I have no hesitation, in my mind and in my business direction, that in the future—whether it’s three years or five years out—that there will be three dominant imaging companies on a global basis and it will be Canon, Nikon, and Pentax/Ricoh"
Yes, yes he did.

And his failure to arrest the decline of the Pentax US market Is in large measure why Pentax isn't what Ricoh wanted.

The US K-1 rollout was a disaster.

Asian Markets are going to be more important in the future. There is a growing amount of wealth there. The general populace may still be dirt poor, because of the sheer numbers there is a lot of purchase power. Sadly the Chinese are very brand name focused, so it is good for Canon.

I think he is being facetious. The K-1 has sold very well in the USA.

Nope. Not facetious at all. The USA market is a mess. There isn't even a 'Denver' any more.

K-1 presales were allocated, but one large Dealer continued to accept IOI's - promising 1st-Day ship - until 3 days before release.

They blamed Pentax for not filling their orders. My contacts insist the Dealer knew how (few) units were in their pipe.

I canceled my internet pre-order and bought my K-1 as a walk-in, off the shelf, at a local B&M Dealer.

But those issues don't qualify as a "disaster". With or without Denver, the K-1 sold very well and the bad actions of one dealer, however large, don't change that.

FantasticMrFox is confusing unit sales with my assessment of the process of bringing the K-1 to market by Ricoh Imaging USA. If the K-1 sold well, it did so in spite of RIAC. My understanding is Ricoh is concerned about DSLR sales in the USA.

They should be, but so should Canon & Nikon. There needs to be significant innovation on the DSLR market from all the manufacturers.

Perhaps you should have said "innovation on the ILC market"; my belief is that the new EOS-M5 is a small step taken by Canon in case the lower tier ILC market tips radically in the direction of MILC.

You won't like Ricoh's next marketing 'innovation'.

He is not. All he did was ask "What happened?" Monochrome must be thinking of someone else
