Rectilinear or fisheye? "Rectilinear" with a severe barrel distortion? If it's reasonably rectilinear it's really mouthwatering!

Hi,

I was with the IRIX guys yesterday at Photokina.

The15mm is reality already, had it on my K-1. It is huge, built like a tank. And if put sharp correctly it is sharp. As per F5.6 this seems to be a little issue only.

The 11mm was presented as pre-production model. Size-wise it is like the 15mm. but the front-lens is a real pop-eye. We tested it on a Nikon750 and it was really impressive. You've got an awesome lot of stuff on your sensor with it.

Maybe it may appear by end of the year and the goal is to maybe get a price tag somewhat near to EUR 1000. This is not confirmed, but that's where they are heading.

Keep in mind, each lens is at ca. 750g, not quite a lightweight

I am very interested in those two lenses so I have a question for you: Focus is manual but aperture is probably automatic (like Pentax-A lenses) so it can be used (other than wide open) at Av or TAv mode?

That is why I will buy the Firefly version. It is lighter, cheaper and I think I'll prefer the focussing grip.

I was at Photokina yesterday as well and had an interesting chat with the guys at Irix. I tried the 15/2.4, and was indeed very impressed with it.

Lots of nice touches:
- the focus ring can be locked, e.g. for when you're doing landscape work and want to keep your lens at hyperfocal distance for max DOF without having to refocus all the time.
- next to a DOF scale, the lens shows hyperfocal distance indicators for a number of apertures and a IR focus point.
- the K-mount version appears to be chipped. It registered its 15mm focal length automatically on my K-3II. AFAIK that makes this the first manual focus lens ever not to require manual input of its focal length. No more information than that in the chip the Irix guys told me, but still a nice time saving touch.

Will I buy it? Well, probably no. Though I like very much what this lens can do on APS-C, my Samyang 16/2 has similar FoV and IQ (in the APS-C frame), larger max aperture, and much more practical size. Should I ever move to FF with the K-1 or any of its successors, I think 15mm would be too wide and I would prefer the FoV Samyang 20/1.8, which unfortunately they didn't have a K-mount sample of at the Samyang booth. But for people looking for 15mm FoV on FF, this lens must be one of the best.

That's interesting as the title when I first saw the image this morning was definitely 11mm f4 Blackstone. <img src="https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/images/smilies/hmm.png" border="0" alt="" title="Suspicious" smilieid="14" class="inlineimg" />
On checking Flickr again there are several new images posted from the 15mm, but the last is identified as a pre production 11mm.

The discontinued Zeiss ZK and Voigtlander lenses for Pentax mount are also manual focus and chipped.
