Who really cares the reason for the price increase? It could be because certain components are more expensive now, because the yen is stronger, because Ricoh can't get enough sensors and wants to maintain some sort of supply of K-1s, or just because they want to gouge consumers, but whatever the case, they have decided that the market will support a price increase.

I guess people just have to do an internal calculation as to whether they think a full frame camera is worth it after the price bump or not. Certainly it is enough to put it out of some folks budget, but it does remain a very nice camera with some features that aren't really offered else where by full frame cameras from other brands.

Interesting that the following thread is now active in another part of PF

Supply-and-demand is the only phenomenon I can think of that explains Pentax K-1 prices going up and Nikon D-750 prices dropping.

Stop trying to use logic. Voodoo is the only thing that explains it.

Here is another statement explaining the K-1 market from a supply-and-demand perspective:

This is till today the current Pentax situation.
The complete production is going directly to the shops,Pentax has nothing on stock.
They can only switch the delivery,if any reseller are cancel orders.
Making a small price adjustment is an entirely reasonable response when you can sell them as fast as you make them.

It is listed out of stock and the 300 drop is now only a 100 drop.

Sounds normal for an aging product nearing the end of its life cycle. Maybe it would have dropped $500 if it were not for the exchange rate. [ducks]

In 2012 or early 2013 didn't we have a large increase on lens prices? I think I remember it around then. When the fever broke there was a lot of celebrating.. and prices began to plummet on some lenses..

I wonder if we're just at high tide right now?

I've been keeping an eye on the price of the K-1 and saw the price increase. I'm down to choosing between that and the Nikon D750. There are features I like about both and was leaning towards the K1 as it s a little cheaper, but now I'm not sure which was to go.

With cameras at this level, a few hundred dollars / euros / pounds either way really shouldn't be a deciding factor on which body to choose, in my view. It's far more important that the camera's features and performance match what you need and want. Adding a few good lenses to cover the major focal lengths will cost thousands, whichever system you choose - Pentax, Nikon, Canon or other.

I mentioned in another thread that you should choose based on glass. Both are decent bodies -- the K-1 is better for landscapes/portraiture, the D750 better for action -- but in the end the glass is going to make the difference in your images more than the camera body. Getting a D750 and shooting with an APS-C kit lens is a recipe for poor image quality, but buy a decent prime and shoot with it and you will get quality results (assuming you know what you are doing). The same is true for the K-1.

Price hike ?

Better ask Nikon what'll be the selling price of the just disclosed AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2,8 EFL ED VR : just under USD 2900...
Seems fluorine has it's cost.
