That will build demand for new lenses. There was little market before with only the new cameras. A good move.

Woah. Who saw this coming? I know I didn't.

Happily yet incredibly surprised for K-3 owners. It makes the K-3 more viable long term I think. I figured the K-3 was already sent off to pasture..

Odd they didn't just create the firmware with KAF4 from the outset for the K-3.. I wonder if it was in the process of being created already, but they went for the newest bodies first to develop the firmware, or if the petition actually worked, or if there was some other feedback given that convinced them to put forth the effort to offer KAF4 for these 'older' bodies? That said, K-3 is still in some stores so it sort of makes sense.. as does the K-50 support.

Good move by Ricoh to create some goodwill, also I suspect they plan to sell a lot of lenses with this KAF4 mount in future.

One of the great features of the Pentax brand is the camera/lens compatibility which would have stopped with the introduction of the KAF4 lens(es). Legacy glass is great to be able to use, but so is the new gear. A great move I think to include the older bodies. Well done Ricoh/Pentax. Thanks.

Hmm. Yeah, I suppose? It won't sway me one way or another, as I have a PZ-1P, K-x, K-30 and a K-1. So it's either going to work with all of my cameras, or only my K-1.

Is this the so-much-wanted KAF4 lens mount firmware update which a lot of (us) forum members wanted?
Such as discussed here:

Fantastic news and a big thank you to Ricoh. I honestly didn't think this was coming. I have no plans to buy the current PLM lens, but who knows what might be coming? And hopefully the third party manufacturers may find KAF4 a more palatable solution to develop for...

I updated 10 minutes after seeing it was available. K-3 works ( beautifully ) as before, but I have no KAF4 lens to try out the update !!!

When I updated my K-1's firmware, some settings (like max Auto ISO) were reset to their defaults. Did that happen with your K-3?

Just updated my K3, no ill-effects, all custom settings remain as set.
No lens to try yet though but will be rectifying that shortly as my current lightweight zoom is the venerable FA 80-320.
