I've been saying for some time now that DSLR's forced us into viewing cameras differently. One SLR could be almost anything you wanted, depending on what film you loaded and whether you added a motor drive, but the sensor and hardware/software providing burst mode are built into a DSLR. Looking at the K-1 and the D850, that may be changing again. By providing a robust crop-mode, these cameras are becoming attractive to users of upper-tier crop-mode cameras.Ricoh may not feel they have the resources to provide the AF that some want from a "flagship" APS-C camera, and if that is the case, then a lineup of K-S2, K-70, KP, and K-1
may be complete for now. This thread started looking forward to CP+ 2017; I would not be surprised if Pentax announces no more bodies before the run-up to CP+ 2018.
