KP is a new line of the flagship APS-C to match the the nikon d 500 whereas the K3 successor will be d7200 like IMO.

I am referring to Pentax 21 and 40 to Fuji's 23/2 and 35/2 not to their 1.4's.

He didn't, wrote "IMO" at the end.
And IMO Pentax won't target D500-level price and performance.

Correct. Just another dream. Pentax isn't even meeting D7200 tracking yet are they? How do you expect them to match the D500? And, even if they did, are you (zmohie) willing to pay 1900 dollars for the honor? That's K-1 price. Don't expect them to shoot themselves in the foot or undercut themselves.

We get incremental updates, not whole generation skipping upgrades.

That said, I'm interested in the pricing of the real, upcoming K-3 II successor. I suspect it comes in kind of low (say 1 grand). And then hope they get another 200 dollars or so off us buying the associated fancy grip.

Either way I'm readyyyyyy.

Geez, this thread is fast and all over. That KP camera should be damn pretty good.....as to my comment on Fuji having lack of pop/3D look, maybe its my justification to be loyal Pentax fan. Though, pictures I saw on the Net could have probably been altered due to upload compression and maybe the type of lens used. Honestly, I haven't tried any Fuji camera yet and their doing a great marketing effort of promoting their cameras. I was very tempted to get the XE when it first came out but got a K5ii instead. I don't know why Pentax is so secretive on their camera releases and why not take advantage of the marketing hoopla instead of relying on us Pentax fans discussing to ourselves and guessing what the specs of the upcoming KP camera will be.

Don't really have an opinion on this, facts are what counts. I'm guessing that the KP with have the P = Pentax version of the Sigma MC-xx lens mount converter. The KAF4 debate seems to add credence to this. I was hoping for a successor to the K-3ii and apparently the KP isn't the k-3 mark iii.

As for ordering from the Usa to Canada. I am sorry to say that i never got away with CCIS not charging me insane amounts of fees totaling somewhere in the 70+% range and that doesn't include the exchange rate, let alone the CP shipping fees.

Fees you pay the shipper aren't ccis fees, on camera equipment anyway the only fee is hst/gst depending on province. Brokerage fees vary but basic brokerage through Canada post is quite cheap.
Now if you import items that have duties on them that will be added but nothing camera equipment wise ever has it (in fact the only thing I've dealt with that has had big duty issues is fabric based cotton fabric has an import cap before progressive duty kicks in so I would order the 50 grand in sheets I ordered yearly so they would arrive early in the year and arrive before the cap kicked in. Still some minor duty but I got the the sheet pattern where I worked knocked off right down to e grade of weave etc. Even with container shipping and hen rail from bc to Ontario and all fees it came in 50% below the Italian manufacturer quote
Canada still has textile mills hence the industry protection (us made is exempt of course )
All the courier companies will take you to the cleaners on brokerage if you have higher dollar shipments get a broker for all importing (generally only viable for a business) or go to customs with the correct paperwork filled out and self clear (the cheapest method if you have time and live in a city that has a customs and excise warehouse that things pass through (wine and alcohol are the biggest hits I've dealt with )

That qualifys the IMO....the first part is a statement which I'm inquisitive about....was it a dream or is it factual....there people on the earth that know, but they aint telling the people here.

I only own the older 1.4 . When I get an xpro2 I will order a kit but that is a way off . And judicious used shopping her might net me a k3 with the trio for not much more......certainly the 21/40 k3 is possible for the same cost .

Hmm... about matching... 8.3 fps vs. 6, better build quality, USB 3, larger buffer... except for the AF, the K-3 series has the upper hand over the D7x00. A new APS-C flagship might be upper level, who knows?

If the K-1 is Pentax's answer to the D810, why should a Pentax APS-C flagship not entertain aspirations to beat the D500? I accept that Pentax DSLRs currently in the market do not equal Nikon's AF performance, but by what right do we argue that this should or will always be the case?

I'm not saying that this great leap forward WILL happen, but I think it's a grave mistake to always say that it can't. If, as some have said, the K-1 makes a completely different lens out of the DFA100WR as compared to the K-5, why should a stroke of AF firmware genius not suddenly put Pentax out in front again?

Oh that discussion was on the D500, of which the AF system (tracking) is the big item of that body. I referenced the D7200 in relation to the discussion on the D500 (AF system).

Can't exactly have a sports body if we are not meeting or exceeding the non-sports competition...

I don't find it to be a situation of it being impossible. The key element is the amount of time it will take. So many want to see drastic changes NOW. But that isn't usually how it works.. these upgrades are iterative. And they generally don't skip too many (if any) iterations.

Look at the K-5 to the K-3. The changes were significant, yet iterative. And from the K-3 to the K-1 again another iterative change. But if we look at K-5 to K-1, one can say 'WOW they can click their heels and give us the moon' because that is a couple iterations of improvement. And it is rather drastic the difference.

There are surely complicated (and likely patented) algorithms on locking onto and then tracking subjects in a scene.. especially around other objects (and not losing the subject). If Pentax can jump into the fast lane and give us great results so be it.. But I generally see companies putting the brakes on innovation and, instead, feeding bread crumbs instead of their whole slice of bread. More money to be made this way and all that.. look at Canon as example. The brand new 80D only matches the K-5 in many aspects. And the K-5 is a 7 year old body. But they keep feeding Canon users breadcrumbs along their own iterative upgrade lane because Canon users have no choice if they want to remain Canon users.

That said, the K-3 II successor should have at least, if not much more, the ability of the K-1's AF system. I suspect another whole iteration and it should be nice.

@mee I agree with you completely. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't consider it absolutely beyond Pentax's power that they skip one iteration generation through a flash of genius and put an AF module into their cameras that can hold its own with the best. We all know they need to catch up in that respect, and I'm sure they know it too. If they can find a way to jump that iteration, I see no reason for them not to put it into the camera.

Its not that drastic!

I agree too, ...it would be nice for a major leap forward to happen....less than a week till some news!

[/COLOR]Just look at how many videos rolled out last night at the end of the press embargo from Fuji for all their new cameras. Some of it was their own marketing material, but a lot was just because they sent the cameras out to people before hand and gave them the opportunity to use them and make a video about their experience. The cost to Fuji was literally the shipping, as it seems like in most cases the cameras were just loaners (not even free gifts to the reviewers.)

All that content helps build excitement and it lives on into the future online, so even if someone who is getting into photography a year from now is looking, they still get the experience.

Sorry if this is yet more off-topic. All this said, I hope whatever the "KP" is that it is a hit for Pentax and I am interested to see some leaked photos (hopefully a few days before announcement.)
I think Ricoh-Pentax should learn from this. Reviews are somehow easily viewed on YouTube. Great idea from Fuji. Pentax should push a bit more, there are many who would like to offer reviews.
