certainly not a serious hi-end APS-C camera.
A mid range....especially when the KS2 finishes and k70 becomes entry level.

@xmeda

In your list you forgot:

- no UHS-II, still UHS-I
- no metering mode selector (multi / center-weighted / spot)
- GPS???

It's typical for every Pentax camera launch. "OMG it's ugly!" - subjective, so one can't really argue against that. "OMG the AF is still not the best!". "OMG is too large, and too small at the same time!". "OMG it's not mirrorless!".
There are valid points to discuss - positive and negative - but not everyone is willing to discuss. Some will just bash the camera.

The K-70 with 11 AF points is entry level, maybe better than most others but still. It's name is misleading. Maybe the K-50 wasnt entry level back then with those standards.

That slots probably just for a spare card....the camera probably wont record to it.

Indeed. Active? Passive (storage)?

On the past BGs it was "passive".

To be honest, on the very first glance, with the front facing KP pic, it looked to me like the K-1 replacement.

I guess the other pieces of information are valid too: "24 Mpix, more compact and lighter than K-3 II thanks to further integration of the electronic components, articulated rear LCD, retro look inspired by ME/MX."
From the looks of it, your 'source' was rather correct.

This doesn't appear to be a K-3 II successor though. I must say, while I appreciate the effort on design, I'm not pleased. The ergonomics look horrible. Look where the shutter release button is at and the large grip looks too angular.

But, worst of all, is they removed the top LCD panel!!?? WHAT were you thinking, Ricoh????

I probably would have overlooked the awful ergo just to get that rear tilt screen, had KP retained the top LCD panel. But they removed the one panel that I use every single time I turn on my K-5 II. I turn off the big screen on the back and just use that.

But with this KP body, that is impossible to do.

So now I have a dilemma, to get a K-3 II while I can find one, or wait longer to see when/if Ricoh offer a true K-3 II replacement (and hope they retain a similar K-3 II form).

Just like with the locking mode dial, when we wanted it both ways. Well, we got that...
Yep, we did. I'm very happy with the vendor approach.

This has the appearance to me of the MZ series, and hopefully the weight to match.

It's going to be a premium camera. The finish on dials (two materials) and price point (~$1350) suggest they are aiming for something equivalent to K-3, but a bit more quirky and stylish.
Premium camera with weak battery?

Yes, for people who don't want the bigger sensor and price!
