The use of kp I know in German is the acronym for "kein Plan" which means "no clue".

I find that fits perfectly. Because we have:
- no clue what kind of camera it will be
- no clue when it will be announced
- no clue where Pentax is going with their naming scheme

I'm having a hard time imagining the business case for a camera below the K-70 at this point, but if they did such a thing, adding a KAF4 18-55mm lens to the lineup would be sufficient. Most people who belong in that category won't need anything besides two two lenses, and not supporting anything else would keep other buyers buying higher tier products.

Seem Pentax is into odd numbers, K7, K5, K3 and the K1 is taken by the new full frame. So where do they go with the K3 replacement? I suspect the KP is the replacement for the K3 as they K3ll seems to be discontinued. Likely will be shown at the CP+ in February. Anyone know the specific date of that show?

It would be really confusing for Pentax's next full-frame to be called the K3. I don't think they'll do that.

Hmmm, I hope this wouldn't create some sort of trademark conflict with Hoya Pentax.

I think it'll be the successor to the K-3II...

. Newer 24MP sensor
. AF system from the K-1
. Newer processor (more FPS, faster experience in general)
. New KAF4 mount from the K-70
. Tilt screen (I will go out on a limb and say with a touch screen, a Pentax first)
. Better video! Or maybe just the K-70 video, would be a bit more realistic...
