KP means that the naming of cameras won't has any problems for very long time ))

(...).
Pentax way of naming their high-end cameras always changes when the overall body design changes too.

For instance during the digital era:
  • 1st body type: *ist D, *ist DS and *ist DS2
  • 2nd body type: K10D and K20D
  • 3rd body type: K-7, K-5, K-5 II(s), K-3 and K-3 II
  • 4th body type: KP

First time their naming convention has been explained - that I've read anyway.

They fit very well with what Mistral75 said - these two are part of an "innovation line" which was merged into the mainstream line.

Definitely not among the "high-end cameras" listed above, as specified in my post.

KS-2 was actually the K-60 It's body is only cosmetically different from the K-70. The K-S1 was an attempt to approach mirrorless size and appeal to girls.

We have a Z-1p film camera where p stands for panoramic. KP might be the first DSLR with a panoramic sensor ratio 16:9 which is the standard format for most TV and film medias, instead of the conservative 3:2 ratio. If U use the Sony 42MP sensor you get a 36 MP sensor in the 16:9 ratio (actually 35.6 MP) 20.2 x 35.9 mm.

And where are the K-x, K-r, K-m? For all we know the new body could be named K-p.

What about the K-3ii - new body type - no on-board flash, tilt/flip screen? Same with the K-1. Not only full frame but the "retro" penta-prism cover also no on-board flash and articulating screen.

Now that would be unique. Perhaps too is the possibility of automated pano mode using composition adjustment.

The MZ7 and MZ5n both have panoramic without the p however the model between them, the MZ6, does not.

I think they test potential inmates for the asylum with the PNT ( Pentax nomaclature test) and if the tested can find a pattern he or she is immediately placed in care.

Why stop at 5 Axis? Let's go for 6.

And triple card slots.
