Pretty sure the most popular complaint about this new model will be that it doesn't provide D500 or better performance for half the price or less. People will want to have their cake and eat it.

Yes. People like to dream..

That said, If one was really in the market for a D500 or even a 7D II, then I'd go with one of them specifically and not hope and dream Pentax comes out with something comparable. Because both Nikon and Canon have the full system fleshed out already. Lenses, body, and support. It's already there.

Pentax does not. That isn't a complaint, it is just a reality. They're not after that niche. And probably because that niche is expensive to offer.

IMO It is d500 competitor at 1400 $.
Price point will have to be below $900 USD because the video is going to suck and the flash sync will only be 1/180s.

Criticism is inevitable; and I can already enumerate some of the reasons for which it will be criticized:
- it's not mirrorless
- it's not Fujifilm
- it's not Sony
- it's not Olympus
- it's not Panasonic
- its AF is not on par with Nikon's best
- it has fewer lenses than Canon
- its video is not on par with the best
- it costs money
- it doesn't match someone's completely unreasonable expectations
- it's a Pentax
You forgot:
- It's too heavy
- For a DSLR, the battery life is sub-par compared to Canon or Nikon
- It's only got a 1/180 flash synch

More cynically:
- It isn't available for several months
- It doesn't exist in a vacuum and is therefore going to be hammered at DPR

Don't get me wrong - personally, I'm waiting and interested. My K mount lenses have only been used off brand for six months or so - it'd be nice to use the 60-250mm native again.

Why can't the K-p's sync speed be 1/200s, like the K-1?

Unless they design the mirror-box/shutter arrangement, all APS-C models have been 1/180 (since the *IST Ds in 2004).

Because its a Pentax. It is written in stone that all Pentax cameras must be at least 1/2 stop slower for X-sync than competing Nikon product. A variance and dispensation was issued for the K-1 since it does not have the burden of tradition to uphold.

?????

Curtain speed is the determinant. Pentax uses configured-to-spec Copal shutters. If the designers wanted faster sync, it is just a matter of asking Copal for a price.

Oh, come now, you can be more cynical than THAT.

Allow me to provide a few examples *ahem*

More cynically:
- It isn't F mount
- It doesn't say 'Canon' on the front
- It still forces me to envision, frame, and properly dial in the correct settings
- It doesn't come with a grip that prints money

More than 500 posts on this thread already. Probably time to issue at least a Distinguished Service Medal, as forum members valiantly keep the show on the road despite almost nothing whatsoever being known about the "KP" beyond a couple of brief remarks about it from asahi man. Well done, chaps
