Pentax "KP" DSLR registered in Indonesia

Aside. From the mz-s which is the last camera to have it they did away with the mechanical, linkage in the mid 90s, certainly it was in part a cost cutting thing. . The reason you need to stop down is the missing linkage. Since the last lenses produced using this Linkage were made in the early eighties and af was rapidly killing interest. Crippled mounts exist in Nikon as well, you pay a premium to use the older ai mount and you need to upgrade original f mount to ai to use them. Canon abandoned their mount altogether which allowed them to develop the mount that they have, which is better suited to af and let them focus on developing that tech. Passed a lot of people off at the time but it was wise in the long run. Same thing happened at Minolta but they never developed the market the way canon did
So after this long winded comment yes they could add it, but it adds cost . Also what monetary incentive is there to revive a change made 20 year plus back. They want you to buy modern lenses

There's no reason it shouldn't use the D-FA lenses to their best capability, and we have yet to see what the roadmapped primes will do.

I agree with the lack of longer primes; they need to seriously consider (if they aren't already working on it) reintroducing the 135mm focal length, possibly to Limited build quality, and then stretching the DA200 and DA300 to make them into fully compatible D-FA lenses. Though I would understand if they went for a * series fast eighty-five first, to suck in the portrait people.

Curtain speed is the determinant. Pentax uses configured-to-spec Copal shutters. If the designers wanted faster sync, it is just a matter of asking Copal for a price.

Steve
Hi Steve, oops. I meant "re-design" at the beginning of my sentence, and believed that the circuit/shutter design tied in the mirror assembly. Which doesn't make sense if you have a camera with 1/4000, or 1/8000 capability. Still 1/180 for 15 or so years.

Pre-AI lenses (pre-1977) will still mount, they just won't meter. The AI lenses need an AI linkage which isn't available in the 3xxx and 5xxx bodies.

But is in their semi-pro bodies like the D7XXX, and D500. Programming for up to 9 non-AI lenses. This article is a good read, and is exactly what backward compatibility should be about .

The original source (Nokishita-Camera.com) who uncovered the KP registration tweeted a couple more KP things a few days ago. Unless Google's translation is wrong (Twitter's built in translation is unintelligible), it sounds like this will replace the K3ii. I can't tell from Google's translation whether he says a silver KP will be announced now or at a later date. The translations from Google are:

"Confirmation of Pentax KP's coming soon. It is a class equivalent to K - 5 and K - 3 II on the merchandise classification, and it is not an entry model such as K - S2 or K - 70.# Quick News # Rumor"

"Confirm that Pentax KP and a new battery grip D - BG 7 will be announced next week. Silver (number unknown is unknown) is likely to be announced together (undetermined) this time. # Follow-up # rumor"

????????? (@nokishita_c) on Twitter

Get a Sony with an adapter and let Pentax look into the future. Backward compatibility is sooooooooo overrated. Pentax does a lot w.r.t. backward compatibility, but your M and A lenses are not the future and Pentax cannot live on lenses sold 30 years ago.

A new mount won't happen it's a dslr. It will have KAF4. To end the K-mount would make all Pentax loyalists swing buyers. adapters can be made for x-mount and e-mount and ef-m mount too.
