New mount. Cheaper and faster lenses. Adaptor for kmount everyone's happy
You must be mixing up the K-P with the M-E rumor. The latter is most likely a fake rumor, but if its true and the sketch have some truth to it, it looks like it has both a new, shorter mount, and a K mount adapter. And yes, if that happens, every Pentaxian should be happy.

However, the K-P that this thread is about, is 99,999% likely K mount (KAF4).

We know as a fact that the M-E is imaginary. And you're very, very wrong assuming that such a thing would make every Pentaxian happy; I'm sick of this constant MILC propaganda. It's disrespectful towards those of us who chose a DSLR - and guess what, we're on a DSLR brand's forum.

P.S. The K-1 and K-70 and all the other DSLRs supporting up to KAF4 have a KAF2 mount and they do support screw-drive AF and mechanical aperture control; KAF3 and KAF4 designations were used only on the lens side.

KP not K-P looks like a K-x K-r successor.

A K-p would look like a K-r series camera, except that naming was abandoned a while ago.
The KP... it's another story.

Consider that both Canon and Minolta fans over a certain age are still sore over their orphaned mounts and that Nikon still provides backward compatibility as well as several ANCIENT manual focus lenses in their current lineup, I would suggest that backward compatibility is not likely to lose value as market currency.

Everyone's happy? Really? How about those who are happy with Pentax?
They don't hang out on the rumor threads...it is against the rules. I only ended up here as a vagrant blown in on an ill wind of fate.

Love when a rumour thread goes super serious.

Can they not make a DSLR that would use a new mount for a new design in lenses and allow an adapter for older generation lenses from pentax. Or an adapter for kmount lenses would mean it would have to be fitted on a mirrorless.

I'm Not camera engineer so just curious.

Still 1/180 for 15 or so years.
A little further back than that. The MZ-S was also 1/180s in 2001 with the rest of the MZ/ZX series being even slower at 1/100s and 1/125s. Strangely the higher models in the Z/PZ series supported 1/250s from the early 1990s until the release of the MZ-S. Go figure...

This is not a rumor thread - this is a leak thread. We actually have information that a Ricoh Imaging Pentax KP DSLR exists and should be announced shortly.

There's no point whatsoever in making a DSLR with a new mount; the K-mount itself is very much adequate and, since last year, a fully electronic mount. Everything that can be done for - let's say - the Nikon F mount can be done for the K-mount as well.
Since another DSLR mount would have a registration distance comparable to that of the K-mount, an adapter would not even be possible (one without optics to give you back infinity focus). It would have to fit within a few mm while offering full functionality, and that cannot be done.
But the premise that we'd like adapting our lenses from a perfectly fine mount to another similar mount for no reason whatsoever is silly.

Sure...ask a Sony owner with legacy Minolta glass how they like theirs...

Why? Break compatibility for...what? They couldn't make a new mount with a flange distance as short as mirrorless cameras, so adapting lenses will still be a huge pain. Then everyone will need adapters, too

You know, the D500 was released on 06 Jan 2016.
I wonder if we are going to get that high-speed 21MP sensor? Given the D7000/K-5, and D7200/K-3 release cycles, if this body is a in a new product class it may be possible.

Pure speculation.

I would be more interested in its best-in-history AF module.
