Some new pics on that too, or at least pics I hadn't seen (with 16-85 and the black and silver side-by-side on a reflective table). Thanks!

Looks like $CDN1500 on amazon.ca. Very expensive, IMHO.

it's relative to the market, our dollar sucks right now so we pay more., release price will hold for probably 6 months then will start to drop (in time for christmas sales) that is the way of the world. Still cheap compared to some other brands in a similar category (80D is 1449 on map sale right now a year after release and with a lesser sensor by a good margin as an example)
I miss the days o the dollar at par

BTW at todays exchange it is cheaper in canada than the US by about $100 CDN if you use your credit card exchange rate or the pay pal one
even at the market rate it is $70 cheaper

I thought one of Pentax's strength was value? 80D is already poor value. D7200 is $CDN1100-1200 right now, XT-20 is on pre-order for $CDN1200, and K-3ii still available for $CDN1000-1050...

It is a brand new not even released camera. I bet that there'll be manufacturers savings soon enough dropping it down.

D7200 is a 2 year old model of course its cheaper in 2019 this will be as well.
XT20 is not the same build , it does offer a couple of features that rolled down from the XT2 , but it is plastic body no Ibis no WR, that said it is a hell of a good camera for the price with most of the XT2 feature content, but given the anethema to mirrorless by so many it is a different market segment (if it was WR i would be tempted - i still am it is better than my xt1 in many ways)

and as pointed out price will come down as the market moves forward. it always does. The big issue is our dollar is crap , it's still cheaper here than the US (1199 us is $1611 based on cost of buying 1199 usd today )

With Tamron and Sigma leaving K mount it certainly won't rise at all..
I remember reading about this. Do you have more information in regardess to this. One of those things I must have read scanning through and my brain didn't register it as true.

Amazon already listed the KP ~ $1199
Amazon.com : Pentax KP Silver Body 24.32 Ultra-Compact Weatherproof Dslr Dynamic with 3" LCD, Silver : Camera & Photo

Wonder how many early adapters will jump on this; and more importantly how long until the price drops to $649...

I remember reading about this
As far as I can tell, from looking at the Sigma USA site, Sigma is still selling K-mount lenses - eg the 8-16, two 10-20's, 10-50, 17-70, 18-35, 18-200, 18-250, 18-300, 35 f1.4, 70-300, and a few more. But it is true that they don't have as many lenses for Pentax as for Nikon or Canon mount.

Worth noting that many Sigma lenses - eg the 8-16, or even the 300 f2.8 - seem to drop off from availability for Pentax, only to re-appear again a little while later. Seems Sigma does much of their lens manufacturing in batches, so it's hard to be conclusive about what they are really up to.

Although you can still find Tamron lenses like the 10-24, 17-50 or 90mm macro for K-mount in many stores, Tamron do seem to have over the last few years stopped making K-mount lenses under their own name.

You and lots of others!

that sounds more end of life so a couple of years , one reason for launching this high would be to encourage sell-through on K3 ii its a pretty common tactic, so USD i could see a drop to 949 say once the sell through is near finished and K3III breaks . it's typical to do this to protect dealers from losing a lot of money on older stocks.

In canada i can see a drop to 1099-1199 in that shorter term and long term see a price of 899 or so to clear (canadian $)

My opinion is the KP doesnt come with the excitement(price wise) that say the K1 did....and take up rate will be a lot slower.K3 shooters wont buy it because its not a real upgrade

It may be a K-01 story over again, but KP has VF and weather sealing in its favour.

I actually wonder who is gonna buy it, so close to K-70 specs-wise....

I had in mind Ricoh was eager to avoid cannibalism, yet this might be a dangerous exception.

Potentially that DP Review doesn't have its facts right...
