It's a upgraded K-70 (especially AF) meant to compete with Fuji and Olympus, Panasonic and Canon M5 and people who don't want to shoot Canon and Nikon Blobs but don't want to part with the dslr. Apart from making the electronic shutter available for shooting I don't see any technological advances. The Nikon D3300 also has a 24.32 mp sensor. it's probably the same one without low pass filter. 1/6000 looks like noisy shutter from the K70 too.

This is a specialty retro camera, not a flagship or mid-range core body. They're testing some new stuff in an interesting body that has some nostalgic value to old Pentax users (mostly old Japanese men). I'd bet they have a planned production run that they complete and then move on.
That's it.

Lol, with that shutter speed you could also pixel shift on the moon. Methinks the 1/6000 second shutter is the loud version from the K-30 etc. It's a curiosity for me anyway. A tech demo model.

Nokishita Camera just corrected a mistake:

- Continuous drive: 7 fps (JPEG: up to 28 frames; RAW: up to 8 frames; RAW +: up to 7 frames).

My two previous posts have been corrected accordingly.

This is awful... just 1 sec of burst time??... I think (hope) this rumor is wrong.

28fps? that's faster than the IMX271 can handle. You could shoot 6k 24p video with that kind of speed.

I have discovered I can tell a short story in a time lapse movie format - be it short and quick, a plane landing, etc. I've been able to do about 20 or so frames (all RAW) on my K5, which is just barely enough. Obviously longer would be better and RAM is cheap. So, I really don't see why Pentax could not extend the capabilities of the continuous drive. Yes, I would like to see more - a lot more. It does not need to match the D500 in its ability to machine gun a long (never ending) machine gun burst, but 8 frames of RAW is too short, too limiting.

I think it's right. The Czech guy who posted a preview then deleted it (but it was found in Google cache) used focus priority in burst mode. He said that the burst oscillated between 3 and 5 fps and slowed down considerably after 50 frames in JPEG mode.

Quoting the Google translation of his text: " As I said, I took 55 shots, the last 5 he's limping, it was the buffer is full and the registration card. The frequency varied between 3 and 5 fps, but it could be light because the preset priority field (Shutter triggered only when focused)."

55 shots of JPEG only or RAW or RAW+ ?? must be JPEG only. But this isn't bad. whats claimed in rumor is 28.

so maybe its ~14 RAW & 50 JPEG.

50 JPEG shots but at 3 to 5 fps instead of 7 fps and may be slower than that (I take it the "3 to 5 fps" are estimated from the sound of the burst). The slower burst gives the buffer the possibility to transfer (many) more shots to the SD card and increases its apparent capacity.

By the way, this buffer size of 28 / 8 / 7 frames (JPEG / RAW / RAW + JPEG) would be close to that of K-S2 (28 / 9 / 6 but with 20 Mpix sensor and 5.2 fps only) and lower than that of K-70 (47 / 11 / 9 at 6.1 fps).

Only a small comment between the speculation, this is NOT the K-3 ll replacement. Maybe more next days, but the upper class model in the line of 3 is coming up later. Best regards
So this is the new mid level class body. The K70 line is now entry level and there will be a top level K-something with a decent grip and top lcd and improved AF. And maybe the K-1 screen and OVF overlay and up to date electronics (We are still on Prime III whatever Pentax calls it ).

Yet another SLR... how boring! This is not what I longed for. I wish I could mount my numerous old lenses on a body equipped with a state of the art EVF. If Pentax does not come out with one soon, I will probably move to Fuji. The X-T20 is very tempting. It would probably offer a significant jump in IQ over my K5IIs and decent video, unlike the recent APS-C Pentax bodies.
