Is DOF bracketting same speak as focus stacking in RAW ?
Depth-of-field bracketing is aperture bracketing, not focus bracketing.

I had to read up on 'DOF bracketting' , Neat feature to have on camera.

Maybe image quality and auto focus speed are going to be phenomenal, but otherwise, it feels like a slightly crippled but still quite expensive APS-C camera.
Yes, there are a lot of deals around over here in the UK especially when one includes "factory refurb" items, which Nikon seems to love as a way of moving excess stock at reduced prices (albeit with a reduced warranty).

The lower-power battery is the main issue for me. I think it has imposed too many limitations. I'm sure things would be fine for a few months but I suspect that over, say, three years of ownership I would find the battery issue a limiting and increasingly annoying factor in terms of how the camera works and what it can really do. Not a question of whether the battery runs out - just carry a spare - but what a modest current reserve means for the electronics. In a similar way, what eventually turned me off the K-01 even though I had a lot of fun with it was that it was soooo slow. The electronics just weren't powerful enough. For me, a full-on camera at 1800 or more would be a better buy over four or five years than this less costly camera is over two or three. Some of the specs don't look for the long haul either (shutter, splash-proof rather than WR, etc.).

But Ricoh imaging describes KP as having:

QuoteOriginally posted by ricoh-imaging.co.jp:
Compact body with exceptional weather-resistant performance to assure solid, worry-free shooting even under demanding outdoor conditions
and

QuoteOriginally posted by ricoh-imaging.co.jp:
Extra-durable shutter unit [..] The PENTAX KPs shutter unit has proven its exceptional durability by withstanding a total of 100,000 shutter release actions

Features2 | PENTAX KP | RICOH IMAGING

Basically Ricoh claims K-5 / K-5 II levels of protection and shutter reliability.

It looks to have the same sr sensor unit as the K-70 but with two extra axis. Different from K-3 II and K-1.

+1, 1/6000 instead of 1/8000, Safox 11, not 12, 1 SD card, small battery. Lack of direct control like AF back button (I use only that personally). Not even the astrotracer thing thas was in K3-II.

While I think the KP is fantastic mid level camera with no weakness, and that maybe the low light is a bit better it is no flagship and the price asked price is flagship price.

Well, now all we know that KP is not the flagship and there will be flagship this year.
For me the main questions are:

1.what will be the price of the flagship
2.and if is too high, which camera worth the money - K-70 or KP?

Any speculations?
Thanks!

Isn't Safox 12 just the full frame lay out of safox 11. A really new Safox for aps-c would have to be 13.

I think it depends on low light performance of KP. If it's really that extraordinary good as it seems from the specs, then it may worth buying. If it's only slightly better than K-70's, then I would buy the latter.

Yes, I will keep eye for full compare, and information for the next bigger camera.

Safox 11 = 27 focus points. Safox 12 = 33 focus points.

But that's done through a special optic arrangement on the K-1's SAFOX 12. I guess there wasn't enough room for that in the KP's body.

There are two things in K-1 / Safox 12 compared to Safox 11 on APS-C cameras:
  1. The activation of 6 additional focus points. I write "activation" since the AF sensor is the same.
  2. An additional device (lens elements in front of the AF sensor) that enlarges the AF coverage.
2. might not be possible / useful on an APS-C body. 1. is software, not hardware.

Software only? I wonder about that.

The changeable grips are the risk to drop camera

SAFOX12 with 33 points will cover 60% of surface of frame at APS-C camera.

But the future is hybrid AF system. Ricoh really needs it for photo shooting.
