I hope it's not the case. The mysterious "hump" on the side of the mirror box appears to be in the same place and of roughly the same size on both. (None of the "sonic boom" bodies has the hump, and I assume it has something to do with the aperture, mirror, or shutter.)

Its housing the aperture control motor

Here is what the K7 looks like

Thanks, that's what I thought. I think the K-01 "smokestack" houses a similar motor. If nothing else, the KP shouldn't suffer from the K-30 aperture block failure.

Will we see 80 dollar custom, wooden handgrips for this by a 3rd party? Your choice of Teak or Mahogany? haha
Hopefully a massive one that sticks out and has a cold shoe ala 6x7

If someone has a K30 that is bricked they should take one apart and see how the lever is activated.
This is from memory but one camera had the motor run the shutter and the lever both or was it the mirror, the more I think about it it was some of the lower end Nikons done this.

Pop-up flash: Yassss!

Combined AF/AE-L button: Noooo!

(I guess the separate AF & AE-L buttons are reserved for high end?)

Looks good. Still same 27 AF ? Well, we as long as don't know what's under inside the box, we can't tell.
maybe they are reserving more sophisticated AF system for the K-3 II's successor.....

If true, then this would be great.

I take it I'm the first one to ask "Where's the HDMI socket?"

If video has no changes - ie, still has no Sensor Shift, useless HDMI, no Peaking while shooting and no choice of decent CoDec, the answer is still, NO SALE.

And pretty much everyone in Cinematography under 30 will be going "No HDMI?, how do I record externally with it?"

I didn't spot Headphone output or USB3 either, so I'd suggest this is the K-s2 replacement, not a K-3 replacement.

Is there are sense to buy KP instead of K-3II or K-70? I don't see any sense....Ricoh makes niche product IMO
Maybe a bit more successful than K-S1...But not much for such price.
maybe price point, If you want an AF system like K-3 II and some other features like more buttons etc from K-3 II, but dont want the pricing of K-3 II, then this is a good deal.

For me the K-70 was very good, but the 11 pt AF was dreadful. Wanted some AF-C tracking - not possible with 11 pts. I also wanted a few more custom buttons, and there are ample on the KP.

Could be a different sensor. But could just be due to masking?
It has to be a new one if there's electronic shutter.

Fx1, fx2, fx3 should fix this easily.

KP price in Japan: ¥137,700 (8% VAT included). ¥137,700 is equivalent to €1,130. The US price could be around $1,100.

By giving up the primary functions of those buttons?

Fx2 on this camera looks promising, but otherwise I wouldn't want to reassign the DoF preview or Exposure Compensation buttons. I like them too much

By the way everything else looks great; this is really a minor thing I am nit-picking It looks like there might be little to complain about on this... let's hope

That's me! The nocturnal hummingbird photographer!

...I just wonder about the AF. When I compare my birds-in-flight with my Nikon neighbours, this is where I lag behind. My only really good BIFs are flying along the focus plane...

There should be some tiny improvements on AF from my K3 though, possibly?

The screen of KP is not articulating tilt/swivel, like in K-70, but only tilting?
