strange, with that high of an iso, why do they still put flash on it? :P
(should have put gps in instead of flash like K3)

at least this camera get a huge publicity with Petapixal : Pentax KP Photos and Specs Leaked: ISO 819200, Pixel Shift, and More

Partly due to exchange rates. It is a very capable camera but it is going to punished for AF performance. Again... It offers IBIS and pixel shift res over Fuji (and weather sealing over the cheaper x-t20) But Fuji have Better AF and better Video. The AF isn't totally useless though but video will almost certainly be rudimentary on this camera. No monitoring jack, no HDMI, digital SR that does more bad than good for IQ.
I wasn't being critical of the price necessarily, though it is difficult to read the post I made and not interpret it as critical. I simply observe, as you do, that this is an interesting camera that will appeal to a certain set of buyers, not the entire general Pentax customer base - and we shouldn't critique it based on 'general' expectations.

I wrote upthread I think this is a one-off, with a planned production run that they will make and move on. They've probably planed some quantifiable profit number ($1,000,000 or something, like a limited silver edition) and be happy to have it. Meanwhile, they're getting some experience with a couple of apparent new technologies - which is textbook Pentax. This could have been designated K-S3 just as easily.

I bought a K-01 pre-order. Still my favorite Pentax digital. There are probably 125,000 people on earth who will say that about KP in 5 years.

Doesn't appear to have a dedicated rear AF button, so most likely NOT the next APSc flagship.
Honestly show stopper for me.

Thank you for the advice. I was basing my opinion on some comparisons I made using RAW files dowloaded from DRP, but this is not real life. More valuable is others' experience.
Three things to remember when comparing Fuji files to others'.
  1. Fuji raws have noise reduction added.
  2. Fuji misstates ISO numbers.
  3. Fuji processing pumps up sharpness, saturation and contrast.

Most manufacturers understate ISO. Pentax ISO numbers are easily closest of all to actual ISO values. To compare Fuji and Pentax equally, you need to compensate by one whole stop ISO 3200 on Fuji = ISO 6400 on Pentax).

The X-T2's noise performance is very good. Almost too good. Compared with the a6300 which uses a very similar sensor, you can see similar luminance noise levels but lower levels of chroma noise - suggesting it's being suppressed somewhere along the line. Still, this has little impact on the level of detail being retained, so shouldn't present any problems. This doesn't cover up the fact that full frame cameras such as the similarly-priced Pentax K-1 will tend to outperform the X-T2 in low light. The noise levels may appear similar but the larger sensor camera is retaining much greater levels of detail.
Elevating X-Trans? Fujifilm X-T2 Review: Digital Photography Review

The X-T1's high ISO image quality is excellent, with rich colours and low noise. This is something of a characteristic of Fujifilm's X-Trans CMOS sensor and associated image processing, although it's also important to understand that Fujifilm's extremely conservative sensitivity ratings mean that ISO6400 on the X-T1 is closer to ISO4000 on most other cameras.

Just when I'm about ready to buy another K-3 because, imo, it is the best APS-C camera... decisions, decisions.
Wait at least until spring just in case a "real" K3 replacement becomes reality ... maybe?
I am keeping both my K5 and K3 for a while yet.

Let's hope this is not ISO marketing BS, even close to the Fuji one ...

And on the Ricoh Imaging USA site where it's listed at $1099 (rather than the $1199 of Amazon and the PF article).

EDIT: price now corrected on PF article.

According to I-R's preview, it uses polycarbonate only for the top deck; the rest is magnesium alloy.

A few other things I found notable from I-R's coverage that I don't recall having been mentioned before:
  • claimed improved autofocus algorithms, for better performance and accuracy than previous SAFOX XI models
  • official tethering support

B&H has the KP listed at 1099. A little more reasonable. I am curious about the depth of field bracketing. Does anyone know what motion bracketing is?
