I certainly hope not, I did notice the KP has the revised pattern of functions on the 4-way controller buttons. The K1 maintained the same positions as the K-7, K-5 and K-3. I'm always pushing the wrong button on the Q-7 because I'm used to the flagship positions.

It's the same pattern used on the non-flagship models (K-30/50, K-70) which should be strong hint on how Ricoh is classing the KP.

I believe PRIME processing is for jpegs.
It depends on whether the PDAF code is run in a coprocessor, as in some Nikons, or in the CPU block on the PRIME. But that goes back to my original point - if there is a PDAF coprocessor, the KP might not have a the same one as the K-3/3II.

I've heard conflicting stories about whether or not this is the new flagship APS-C and though I don't think it is, I do think it is an intriguing and exciting camera. I just wish they'd have come out with a true new flagship before this one. The KP makes me thing that we'll now have to wait even longer for the new flagship than I'd previously hoped.

  1. KP is not the new flagship APSc
  2. KP is mid-range, between K-70 and flagship
  3. Flagship APSc is next body, between June and October
  4. KP was set for September/October but earthquake pushed everything.back six months

Are you 100% sure?

(forget my remark if you meant to write "K-mount body")

KP: priced at flagship apsc but it's not flagship apsc?

points that support it is a flagship:
1. price
2. dedicated hand grip

points that support it is not a flagship:
1. on board flash
2. no top led
3. not using K5/K3/K1/645z battery

slightly off topic, but d'you know what? I almost never use the top lcd - and I don't miss it - the rear lcd gives much more comprehensive information for making adjustments, and the viewfinder covers the basics you need for shooting - and I'm talking K-1 which has a top lcd however atrophied it might be.

4. 1/6,000s mechanical shutter
5. max 7fps burst mode
6. minuscule buffer
7. only one SD card slot
8. smaller D-LI90 battery.

The reasons for the price increase have been explained by monochrome. They will apply to all future cameras as well, unfortunately, including the next APS-C flagship.

K200D had a dedicated battery grip (D-BG3) whilst not being a flagship.

A very small on-board flash is not flagship, but the idea that no flash is somehow flagship essentially qualifies as an alternative fact. Using the on-board flash as configured in the K-3, for instance, provides much greater flagship options as a controller in a smaller form than any other alternative.

9. KP casing is a combination of magnesium and poly.

The biggest hint to me that the KP is not a flagship model is the lack of an ISO button and the 4-way controller.

On each and every flagship model from the K-7 on including the 645D/Z there is a separate ISO button and the same pattern of functions to the keys on the controller. The K-1 differs only in the bottom key/button which opens the LCD mode (night, day1, day2) function.

Each and every lower model has a different pattern with ISO on the top key/button. The KP uses this layout.

K-3ii rear

645Z rear

K-7

KP rear

K-50 rear

K-01

K-S2

Just when I feel I can safely save tons of time by ignoring this forum for the next few months, you go and say something like this.
