I already have a Nikon film body.

Film costs and the lack of a direct post ability make film non-starters.

My K-5II is setup nicely, I just am looking for another camera that can be set up in the same manner with better features than the K-3II. The rumor was this was going to be it. That rumor was incorrect.

Waiting for CP+... not so patiently..

If the K-3 III does get released then, the next thought is how much is it going to cost??? It is a really dicey predicament for smaller players such as Ricoh/Pentax because there is so much established competition.

This looks like the Buick GNX of DSLRs. Love it! Similar to the GNX, though, many won't "get it".
That isn't a positive comparison for Ricoh... they're looking to sell more cameras and make more money. Not have a product that is legendary and revered by few, bought by less...

What particular features do you need to be better? I would assume anything about the KP until some actual users report on actual experiences.

Improved DR, Better AF tracking, deeper buffer.. for starters.

This is an unusually spec'd camera. It has some high end features such as the allegedly improved sensor and improved (over K-3II) tracking.. yet has a slower burst rate, smaller buffer, one card slot, USB2 vs USB3, smaller battery and is priced higher than the K-3II.

If Ricoh offer a K-3 III replacement with the filled in specs in the next couple of months, then the price will be the consideration... because it won't be cheaper than this KP. Yet, unless it really knocks the performance out of the park, it starts to butt into more established, competing systems.

Even if the K-3 III is a monumental upgrade (over the K-3 II) and is offered still around 1200-1300 USD, if it is offered closer to the end of the year, then they run into a similar issue of butting into more established, higher end systems...

Right now, we only see part of the plan. So it doesn't make sense. The hope I have is at CP+, we'll get more of an idea. This is the time for Ricoh to step up to the microphone and give current Pentaxians a feel for what they have in mind for the future of Pentax and not leave us to guess. Because the guessing will almost always end up a bit negative.. and negativity is not going to help build your brand!

Is this a K1 or? On the video it looks so much like a K1. That's the K1 for everyone not having the budget for a K1?

In America the three grips are all included. Battery grip I pre-ordered is 229 per B and H. From what I have read the battery grip won't be out until May.

Google Translate

Sample KP photos, site translated through google.

ISO 800 doesn't look that great to me.. still mushy.. I see no improvement at this setting. ISO 3200, however, does look better for ISO 3200 imo.

Reported that top plate is polycarbonate and body is magnesium alloy.
That's pretty good. Once it will on the shelf; I'll take a look.

Have you noticed; the handle is screwed, that would mean the plastic part can be replaced by a nice wooden piece (similar to the Hasselblad Stellar), so that the KP would be transformed into a luxury camera.

Interchangeable grip is pretty smart.

Looks nice enough but nothing that really sells me. I was thinking it might make a good ski/adventure camera but the K-S2 is smaller based on the camera comparison and this one seems a little pricy for how much better of a camera? At least for the use I was considering it seems steep. I'm not too picky about styling so that part seems fine. The index finger knob might be convenient.

The camera looks good, but still designed as entry level camera (small battery) and the price isn't entry level. I'd eventually get one if the battery was a D-LI90 (so I could use backup battery from the K1). Otherwise, at this price I could get a small prime for the K1 and still use the K1 as compact kit.

Where can we see it?

Japanese camera shops say "sell separately" for M and L hand grips.

So far the KP has been billed by various people and marketing materials as entry-level, mid-range, and high-end (K-3ii successor).

This camera has an identity crisis

I don't see anything attractive for me in this camera, except for may be the sensor. I'm not going to buy it, but I don't mind its existance in Pentax DSLR line. The only thing that worry me its ridiculously high price for such very modest specs, and I wonder what price Ricoh will ask for K-3II successor..
