Translation: "The Pentax KP will co-exist for six months with the K-3 II before the latter retires and is replaced."

Interesting, isn't it?
K-3II's replacement will be only in June?

More seriously: I happen to know Bruno Labarbere, the author of the KP review and chief of the photo column at Les Numériques. He wouldn't have printed that, hadn't he heard it from somebody at Ricoh Imaging France (which happens to be Ricoh Imaging Europe too) he would trust. It's also pretty easy to determine who from Ricoh Imaging France talked to him about the Pentax KP (but I will refrain from giving the guy's name or position ). Whether the latter has perfectly understood what was told to him by his Japanese counterparts at Ricoh Imaging HQ is another story...

I'll wait for the rumored K-3ii replacement later this year...

The KP looks slick, but 8 frame Hi RAW buffer?!
That's a massive downgrade from the K-3ii.

The new sensor and SR system look interesting, but that's not enough for me unfortunately.

...or later

Ricoh Imaging are not foreign to announcing cameras in June (K-70, K-50, K-500, Q7) or July (K-3 Prestige Edition, XG-1, Smurf K-01).

The one thing I don't see answered, it has the Prime IV image processor from the K-1 but does it have the accelerator kit from the K-70, or is that not needed with the Prime IV. And what does that high ISO value mean in terms of real life shooting?

The big thing for us, is Dynamic Range for landscape and burst rate and high ISO performance for wildilife.

It's worth noting, this is the first APS-c camera with the Prime IV. If that puts the DR up into K-1 range, that would be awesome.

That question is answered: yes, the KP has both the PRIME IV and the accelerator unit:

This looks like the Buick GNX of DSLRs. Love it! Similar to the GNX, though, many won't "get it".
Never thought that I'd see a camera compared to a Buick GNX!

I've never understood the high ISO values of DSLRs like the D5 - 3.28 million ISO?
Real life testing shows unacceptable noise past ISO 6400...

What's the point then?
I don't care what the paper says, prove it in the field!

Win some, lose some on the K3II, but much more expensive. I wonder who the target buyer is... Stealthy speed cameras?
Still an interesting camera, just not a K-3 replacement (while there is a K-3). Unless they worked miracles on the AF...

And if this is 1100£ and the K-1 1800£, the K-3II replacement will come very (too?) close to the later.

As a benchmark, the same initial monthly production volume was:

- 5,000 units for K-70
- 10,000 units for K-3 II
- 15,000 units for K-S2
- 20,000 units for K-S1
- 10,000 units for K-3
- 20,000 units for K-50
- 20,000 units for K-5 II(s)
- 20,000 units for K-30
- 14,000 units for K-01.

The trend is a clear decline, in line with the global market:

- mid-range: 20,000 units (K-30, K-50) --> 15,000 units (K-S2) --> 5,000 units (K-70)
- expert level: 20.000 (K-5 II) --> 10.000 (K-3, K-3 II).

I don't know were to classify the Pentax KP. Ricoh Imaging have bigger ambitions for it than for K-70 but smaller than for K-3 and K-3 II.
Looking at bcn figures Pentax maybe sold 80.000 units dslr in 2016 in total. Half of that in Japan. This is in line with my calculation from two years ago that they sold some 100.000 units. I don't see the K-70, KP and K-1 sell in large numbers in 2017 with the cureent prizes.

Sensor, IBIS assembly, AF module, image processing pipeline, most likely shutter/mirror assembly

Tess is still using a K-5, this cold finally be the upgrade for her. Unlike me, she won't give up the stop of DR going from a K-5 to a K-3. And she doesn't really care about the image size. Her K-x was fine. But 27 AF points and the tilt screen would be selling points. I can't wait until IR gets their hands on one. Their uniform test images , lw/ph evaluations, full size comparison images, etc. are usually the deciding factor for me.

There's that accelerator unit. The only thing lacking is two card slots, but I'm starting to find two card slo annoying myself. I doubt that's going to be a factor. It's asicly going to be IQ at 3200 ISO. Her K-5 does 1600 ISO quite nicely with PP etc.

The more I look at this camera the more I like the aesthetics and layout. My personal take is that its more or less a mirrorless camera with a mirror. which is a direct shot at sony and fuji. Its a good direction to go.

Without having used it, it does seem to be missing some of the standard flagship buttons on the back, like the auto focus point selection button that allows you to toggle the directional pad between modes... Perhaps its included in the third dial?

The only other concern would be the front dial, For me, the placement seems a but awkward, however, I have not handled one so perhaps it looks awkward but is really a joy to use....

The specs are not to much more impressive than that of the current K-3II or K-3 (which is a common theme) Its not enough to make me want to run out a buy it. Honestly, I was hoping for some major improvements in the auto focus department to help bring the brand up on par with the other players in speed and accuracy... ( I am sure this statement will illicit plenty on comments)

It is a good looking camera though, I hope that it brings good success to Pentax/Ricoh.
