It's so good that it utterly destroys the Canon 85mm f1.2 and some Canon owners have even taken to adapting it to fit their bodies Canon 85mm f1.2 L v Pentax SMC 85mm f1.4 When I was looking for an ideal portrait lens I was trying to decide between the 77mm Limited and a secondhand 85mm F1.4. The truth is the FA 85mm f1.4 probably is the better lens but I never found one in mint condition at the time I was looking so I bought the 77mm. I would have thought putting that 85mm lens back into production with a new autofocus ring motor would be a very wise move. The K1 is a premium product and as such deserves premium glass (which is different from saying that cheap lenses can't be good). This is one of the finest imaging devices ever made and geared to professionals and serious amateurs so I think it is wise for Pentax to focus on premium lenses for it even if it means it's harder for normal people (like me!) to afford them.

I have both the 77 and the 85 1.4 for my K-1. I've shot with both fairly extensively and definitely prefer the 85 (probably the best lens I own). It was not too hard to find a used copy on eBay last year for me. Even came with the original hood. It occasionally turns up on the marketplace here on these forums as well.

I need a FF prime with decent AF. The FA50 1.4 has bad AF, and the DA*55 has severe vignetting at 1.4 3.5 when focused on infinity, contrary to what others have said on the forum.

I guess my only option are the ltds. 43mm here I come.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR....

I'm still laughing at the idea of a 14mm f1.8 from Sigma. Then I looked it up; the thing is 2.6 pounds and the front element measurements appears to be Large x Huge.

I really hope there's some nice wide thing available for the full framers in the group at CP. Even if it's the Tokina 11-16 with a k-mount bolted on and Pentax coatings. I know the likelihood is *extremely rare* but that lens has seemed interesting to me for a while and would solve a real hole in the k-mount lens lineup from Ricoh. OR something designed in-line with the 15 Ltd but for full-frame.

What is there to laugh about? That translates to superior astro performance at f/2.8 where other primes choke and mess up corners with all kinds of aberrations. Including D-FA 15-30, which btw is at least as brick and glued to 15mm position for many users.

I skipped the 15-30 because it's huge and heavy. If Ricoh Imaging would somehow rebrand the Sigma 14mm f/2.8 as well (they won't, of course), I would avoid it as well.

If it was being made by some other company, okay, but it's the Sigma part and how they seem to go overboard with weight and front element diameter. I understand that the astro folks and probably people doing architectural photography would like a lens like this in theory. Let's see how this lens does regarding edge performance; I don't know that it'll really be all that great until stopped down far enough to make that max aperture a moot point.

The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 is a touch over 19oz. The Sigma 14 f1.8 is a touch over 43oz. This is a key reason why I think the 11-16, rebuilt ala the Tamron 15-30 for Pentax, would fit in pretty well in k-mount land. I doubt many folks are going to miss the Sigma. And we haven't seen how it performs at f2.8 but I have my doubts that it doesn't clear up across the frame decently until f4 or more. I could be and are often wrong but time and reviews will tell.

@pres589: the Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 Pro DX II is an APS-C lens.

Gah! Foiled again! Never mind that noise then. Someone make an 11-16 full frame lens and get back to me on some evangelist work I guess.

You should have a look at the Laowa (12mm f/2.8) and Irix (11mm f/4 and 15mm f/2.4) alternatives.

Pentax has shown lenses before, that weren't available next week. That would explain the lack of leaks in the marketing channel.

If you had your choice, what lens would you like Pentax to introduce for the kind of portait work you do?

I've only got my DFA 15-30 out at night a couple times so far but have no complaints with corner performance, theres very little coma or anything to be seen. Everything is super sharp. Is there any evidence that suggests the Sigma 14/1.8 will be better at coma, corner sharpness etc?

To be fair, of course more choice is always nice.
