I think a 85mm f2-ish lens in the same class, price range and performance as the DA 35 f2.4 would be a great addition to the Pentax line-up. Budget lens does not equal optically bad lens.

BUdget v premium lenses

The truth is though that Pentax have one of the finest 85mm lenses ever made in their history already. It's so good that it utterly destroys the Canon 85mm f1.2 and some Canon owners have even taken to adapting it to fit their bodies Canon 85mm f1.2 L v Pentax SMC 85mm f1.4 When I was looking for an ideal portrait lens I was trying to decide between the 77mm Limited and a secondhand 85mm F1.4. The truth is the FA 85mm f1.4 probably is the better lens but I never found one in mint condition at the time I was looking so I bought the 77mm. I would have thought putting that 85mm lens back into production with a new autofocus ring motor would be a very wise move. The K1 is a premium product and as such deserves premium glass (which is different from saying that cheap lenses can't be good). This is one of the finest imaging devices ever made and geared to professionals and serious amateurs so I think it is wise for Pentax to focus on premium lenses for it even if it means it's harder for normal people (like me!) to afford them.

I will dance all my way from Queens to Manhattan B&H to buy the K-1 if they put 85/1.4 back in production.

No announcements yet... But none of the big camera companies have announced anything today. So I guess tomorrow?

Is Canon big enough to be considered a big camera company?
They have announced a whole bunch of stuff just last week.
However, that Ricoh did not announce anything yet, does not matter. KP alone is fantastic announcement for 2017.

Canon and Ricoh Imaging have already announced their stuff. Sony have announced lenses and seem to prefer to use a "private window" for their next camera announcement, sometimes in the second half of March.

As for Nikon... they have other cats to whip, as we say in French (you would say "they have other fish to fry"). They didn't announce anything but KeyMission action cameras at Photokina.

Canon announced a bunch of second tier stuff and that was a week ago. A more interesting announcement would be a 6D Mk II, to see where Canon envisions the lower part of the Full Frame DSLR market to go. Knowing Canon it will just be an iteration though. And where are Fuji Olympus and Panasonic. Did they spill their beans at Photokina?. Anyway no real pre-show announcements yet. Only From Sigma and Irix and other, smaller lens companies.

6DII with 5D4 sensor and articulating screen is huge step forward. Will purchase such thing to use with TS-E lenses.

Canon have two DSLRs in their pipeline, already registered under code names by various telecom authorities.

As for Ricoh Imaging, remember they didn't announce anything at Photokina 2016 nor before it and they announced Theta SC only during the whole second half of 2016.

With the market decline we have to get used to fewer and fewer announcements.

They're slow.. RI rep (CP+ 2016 interview) said USB2 was included on K-1 because development started at a time when USB2 was the standard. It must have taken them YEARS to complete the K-1. That alone should tell us the speed of RI on brand new products.

But that do not tell that they are any slower than other brands. Ofc developing the K-1 took years, expecting less would be fanciful.
