Seven months before the successor of the K3II?

"

Ending with a question mark I do not consider that as a crystal clear timeline...

We need some leaks asap!

If history is any guide, significant leaks will happen one to two weeks before the official announcement. I would not expect anything sooner, unless it is a cryptic statement from one of our insiders.

^ Hahaha! Haven't seen that in a while.

But yeah! We want some leeks! I mean leaks.

By the way, going back to that supposed KP grip that was floating around the interwebs back in January of this year, the current KP grip is not similar to that one. The KP grip doesn't have that special locking handle. It attaches with the typical tripod screw mechanism. If you also look at the image of the camera & grip on Pentax Rumors website, you'll see that the camera has a top LCD panel. That makes it quite interesting. I wonder if that was a preliminary drawing for the upcoming APS-C flagship or just an exercise in design? Hmmmm.............

The camera images from patents are generic, and not an indication of any new product.

^ Yes, but even if they are generic, would those drawings indicate that Pentax is indeed working on the upcoming flagship & is planning to introduce some new features that haven't been introduced before?

No; that's not the point of the patent. The only new feature which we see in the patent is the new grip mechanism.

(However, Ricoh Imaging might very well work on an upcoming flagship & plan to introduce new features)

The usually use OLD camera designs for illustrating patents.

Of course, since they can't use still-to-be-designed camera designs
Patent application date: January 22, 2015. The K-1 wasn't ready back then, the KP, even less so. And the next APS-C flagship?

Besides, as I said leaking info about your in-development products is not the point of the patent.

KP designer who was interviewed for a Japanese dealer brochure said there was more than one KP prototype . . .

The OP's summary linked above is interesting. When I got K-1 I planned to sell APSc gear and superfluous lenses. I got a used KP and independently decided to keep my DA Limiteds for it, so that kit goes with my K-1 and FA Limiteds. Turns out that was precisely what the designers intended
