This is just an old article.

Could still be the camera Thom was talking about.

It will be interesting to see the direction the next GR will go. Keeping as near to the form factor is essential.

Samsung developed an exceptional 28mp APS-C BSI sensor that would be a good fit for the GR. OLED screen should be a must which Samsung are involved in developing also.

Using a Foveon APS-C sensor in a compact would allow pixel shift sharpness without having to use pixel shift. Sigma has an APS-H sized Foveon sensor now which could be interesting for a compact camera sensor.

I say this all the time that Pentax should have a compliment compact WR APS-C camera with 40mm FOV to the Ricoh GR 28mm.

And please UHS-II. It was hard to believe Sony released the A99 with only UHS-I. I feel this just limits the overall performance and any future firmware improvements.

About 18 months ago, Ricoh held a 10th anniversary event for the GR in Tokyo, “GReeting”. Here is link to a report.
??????GR?10?????????????? - ???? Watch Watch

One of the photos shows a survey that the visitors were asked to complete. It is a fairly light-hearted survey, with the options on the far right looking more like a joke than real options. However, it might be a indication of what Ricoh has been thinking of over the past couple of years for the GR.
————————————

Title: Let’s imagine the GR!

Body size: Coat pocket, jeans pocket, shirt pocket
Sensor size: 1/1.7, 1", APC-C, 35mm full frame, medium format
Focal length (35mm equivalent): 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, dual focal length lens
Max aperture:F1.4, F1.8, F2.8, F0.85
Color: Black, Green, White, Silver
Resolution: Options from 2 mp to 50 mp
Macro capability: Options from “whole pizza” to “grain of rice”
Shake reduction: Sensor shift, lens shift, sensor and lens shift, none (it’s up to you!)
Toughness (where do you want to use it): Can’t read because the guy’s hand’s in the way
View finder: Can’t read
LCD monitor: Can’t read, but the last (joke?) option is none

————————————
Based on the past pattern of updates, and given what an iconic product the GR is for Ricoh, I don’t believe the next update will be minor. I think both the sensor and the lens will change at the very least. It’s a bit of a crazy thought, but I wonder whether those curved sensors that Sony was showing a couple of years ago would be ready for production by now. That technology looks like it is made for a camera like the GR. It could enable a faster lens, or even a larger format sensor in the same size body. Purely my speculation, of course.

I really hope so! I've got the GR and passed on the GR II, but recently have been really wanting a GR with wifi, but didn't want a two year old version. I'm hoping a new one comes out asap. I want to adapt it to a drone.
