Pentax KP vs. D750 raws at high ISO 25600 - Pentax APSC on par with Nikon FF

Download the ISO 25600 raws here:

Pentax KP:
http://216.18.212.226/PRODS/pentax-kp/FULLRES/KPhSLI025600NR0.DNG

Nikon D750:

Even in 100% view you have to search around a lot to find any insignificant differences.
Let alone what is left after postprocessing.
Definitely nothing any non-geeky viewer would ever recognize without direct comparison under a loupe.

Wow Pentax. Well done.

The KP seems to have improve SNR over K3. The gap between a KP and K1 seems to be less than it used to be. K1 shows much less chroma noise than any previous camera and they seem to have applied the same tech. on the KP.
Chroma noise is still very significant with other brands of cameras.

The K-1 doesn't have the "accelerator unit" from the K-70 and KP.

Do you think the "accelerator" fits between the sensor and the DSP or is this accelerator (What's known as application processor) lies between the CPU and SD cards?

The "accelerator unit" obviously fits on the camera's mainboard.

I wonder what a K1 with accelerator (pedal to metal ) could do

Within the image data stream, is that a raw processing unit like Sony do? Or simply an small DSP performing 2D FFT (Jpeg conversion).
If I compare KP raw to K3 raw, KP is cleaner. So either the sensor itself delivers better S/N or there is some cleanup done on the raw itself.

Would it need an air scoop?

I don't like to speculate especially in a technical matter such as this. From my understanding, though, it's also affecting RAWs.
Of course, the sensor is new and that might have the largest impact. The K-3's is 2013 or earlier.

Same as my K-3, oh well, it was a nice bubble while it lasted.

Looking at the KP RAW in RawDigger it does not look as if there is much processing being done - or it is well hidden with no missing levels. The dynamic range at that ISO is not all that great (about 1:1000) but that is to be expected. Chroma noise, which is usually much more disturbing than luma noise, is remarkably low. Nice one Pentax !
