As a person who owns over 180 50mm lenses, there are a lot of interesting things manufacturers have tried over the years with 50mm lenses.

What about 16-50 and 50-135? They are * and they were developed together with Tokina, as far as I remember. So * itself doesn't make it necessarily 100% Pentax.

Yes its huge, it will not come cheap and its made for the FUTURE!!!

If you dont like it, just go play and fiddle with your old glass. Let us others be happy about it. Just stop the whining!!!

Pentax need to think ahead too..not get stuck in the old days like many seems to be. Pentax wants to rise, not to only satisfy old timers.

Its made for FF and the future, so get over it when it comes to size. The times with the small fiddle glass for FF are over!!!! Quality ahead of size.

And btw..for all you negative people, i just get your head back in the sand..Let us that is positive and happy have our time

There..just had to get it out of my system!

The Pentax DA*16-50mm f/2.8 lens is a Tamron re-badge. There goes that theory.

I'm aware that Sigma has continued to sit on the sidelines with no stated intention of returning to k-mount land any time soon.
This could easily be said of Tamron as well.

I don't know that Sigma wouldn't agree to, say, a 10,000 piece run of 50 Art guts to ship to Pentax Vietnam for build-up into this lens. In fact, this seems pretty plausible, as what does Sigma have to lose save for a dent in the amount of 50 Art lenses they could sell in their own wrapper for a given amount of time in return for an agreed to sale of parts.
10,000 50mm f/1.4 ART optical assemblies that sigma wants to foist upon pentax because sigma doesn't want them? There is also a problem is if repairs need to be done, where are the lenses going to be sent to? if it is the shell and electronics that are defective it goes to pentax - what if the optical assembly is out of alignment? ( you know where i'm going with this) will sigma agree to adjust it on behalf of pentax?

Plus it might give them an idea of how well their sort of lenses sell in k-mount land without any real skin in the game. Time will tell I guess.
Indeed it will, I remain skeptical of any collaboration between pentax and sigma. Zeiss has more history with Pentax.

The DA* zooms were co-developed with Tokina but not co-produced. They had similar optical formula's but were not made in the same factory. This should be common knowledge.....

Pentax coming out with a bunch of expensive high end lenses makes us Pentax dinosaurs look less cheap and quirky.

It's a good thing.

You're telling me that Sigma would back away from 10,000 assured sales of partial lenses? I bet they could draw up something where they make money and it's a lot of lenses moved at once. I don't know that Sigma is so rich as to outright ignore something like that. And yes, Tamron is walking away from k-mount, but the rebadge zooms says they're interested in working with Ricoh. Why not Sigma, what's the real difference there?

Zeiss had history with AOC. Do they have similar history with Ricoh? Hell, Leica had history with AOC, are you sure this isn't something with them instead? A lot of guessing.

Dont know the older history. I just know that NOW all * lenses are 100% Pentax. This one, just as the 70-200 is. This is facts, not theory. And so it will continue to be.

Sigma reverse engineer's the mount, Tamron pays to license it? Just a guess.

As a general impression, Sigma seems to see themselves as some kind of optical rebels or bad boys. Have they ever licensed anything to anyone?
