It doesn't really manage the one-eye-in-focus look... disappointing

Even the edges of the frame, like the wood texture at the very top or bottom, are still sharp. Definitely seems like it can compete with the other sharpness monsters that are so popular these days (Tamron 45mm, Sigma 50mm, Zeiss 50mm)

Well in the text that goes along with the image it seems to indicate it isn't the full frame being shown since it is a prototype or taken with a prototype camera, I'm not sure which. And it also indicates closest focusing distance is 0.4 m

But yes it is quite sharp.

Obviously I don't know what if any post processing was done, but the colours look great and the micro-contrast looks great - very pleasing result with the classic Pentax look.

I have no doubt that it will be a great lens. Hope Ricoh releases it soon.

Actually they indicate that it isn't the full size being shown since the lens is a prototype. Hence the 1,281 x 1,920 pixels.

Even with the small image dimensions, and even if a prototype, that lens is going to be a must have by the looks of it. I'm almost sorry for going the Sony route

The sample doesn't give us a lot of info to compare the DFA* 50mm to other 50mm lenses out there, but it certainly seems to be/have:
a) sharp even in edges
b) very smooth bokeh
c) subtle contrasts and saturated colours
