Sharp this thing is.. If you look at the facial details... man I can see the make up/layer of foundation on her cheeks...

But it seems like there are artifacts there? Makeup wouldn't have those lines in it.

Correct. And facebook automatically strips EXIF so there is no way of knowing unless Ricoh share..
As for the aperture, considering the depth of field (her hat is in focus and so is the handle) I would say around f/2,8.

Nice shot, but except for bokeh, almost non-informative regarding true lens performances...

That picture looks pretty darn good to me.............oh boy. Even if exif is not there, they teased everyone with this. Itäll be interesting spring to look how it will turn out to be. Luckily I don't have too much money and have already big pile for my LBA to go on before this one, but it looks good.

That's the question I have. If the aperture is f2.8 then it is pretty good performance, but most fast 50s are good at f2.8. The question is more how sharp it is at wider apertures than that.

I'm sure it will be a good lens, I just don't think this picture says much either way.

Is there any info anywhere regarding how the lens will be priced?

Well, her hair at fore head are out of focus and even other eye is little abit too. Handle and eye are at same level, so that’s why it is in focus too. Transit between Oof and focus is really subtle. Also clarity with hair falling down is really nice and tones. I suppose that it will be sharp and controlled lens, but it is not all about sharpness is it. For me that is almost too sharp already. Even pretty girl like that, and I hope that they softened it a bit for my taste..

The latest OEM 50mm F1.4 lens introduced to the market was a Sony.
It was introduced before the latest round of significant price increases (so today initial prices for new products might be higher) for 1,800 EUR ($2,137) incl. taxes.
Now you can start guessing what is realistic and what is wishful thinking.

man, google translation sucks..
its says "lens developed under a high demand for performance"
Does this refer to user demands or Ricoh requirements towards a third party manufacturer?

I would say it means Ricoh Imaging had pretty high demands vis-à-vis themselves (and their contractors by the same token) when developing this lens.

It could refer to users demands, but most likely is referring to the demands of Ricoh's internal design team who created the lens. I'm not sure how you are seeing a third party manufacturer in that statement.

Unless RI shot that with a camera body outputting 2.5 MP, I'm going to say it was likely resized from a much larger original file. As a result, the downscaling can affect sharpness.

Definitely, all resizing affects the image. And we don't know what PP was done - is this in-camera jpeg development like you get by default? Or was the shot raw and processed in some editor? So sample photos like this are mostly a tease. We need to see actual dng files to truly evaluate the lens. But even this resized jpeg is much more than we got in a while, so its exciting. So far so good, I'd say. Hopefully the reviews and lab tests will confirm the lens' quality, but it will take long time before those get published
