Obviously this is not a lens for those happy with 1960 optics. That doesn't mean Pentax should stay in 1960.

By the way, the image as posted by Photorumors appears altered/oversharpened (by their site's software?). You should look at the Facebook version.

You're right on. In this context its definitely NOT about the customer demand.

"要求 (yo-kyu)" could be a demand as a request for somebody to do something, but it's a strong word in this context (somebody is pressuring somebody else to comply), so it's rarely used by a company to mean customer demand. "要望 (yo-bo-)" or its politer form "ご要望 (goyo-bo)" is the word for that, it's like customers' wishes or something.

Yo-kyu could also be a requirement as in a condition to meet and that's what they mean here.

They're just saying that the performance goal they set for the development of this lens is very high.

That's intuitively what they should have been saying - thanks for the confirmation that they were!

Found on the Chinese Xitek forum: 国国64 indicated the dimensions of the HD Pentax-D FA★ 50 mm f/1.4 SDM AW: 80.5mm in diameter x 106mm in length. He compared them to those of HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR: 88.5mm x 109.5mm.

That's quite a big lens. If you do primes most of the time you'll need a bigger bag.

From the company that gave you lenses like the FA 43, DA 40XS, or DA 70....

If the dimensions indicated by 国国64 are correct, the Pentax lens is longer but thinner than the recently launched high-end 50mm f/1.4 lenses for SLR/SLT cameras:

- Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC (manual focus): 81.6mm x 73.2mm
- Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art: 85.4 mm × 99.9mm
- Sony Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 SSM ZA: 81mm x 71.5mm
- Zeiss Milvus Distagon T* 50mm f/1.4 ZF.2 (manual focus): 83mm x 94mm.

Yes! I carry DA 35mm, DA 21mm, DA 40mm.. my biggest prime is the Samyang 14mm and I find it massive, but it can hide behind these modern primes! Still, Sigma proved there is a market for really big 50mm primes. Hope it sells well.

Its about the same size as other modern fast 50mm lenses. The Sony Zeiss 50mm F/1.4 FE is 83.5 x 108 mm. Its huge on my A7II.

A D-FA* for X-mas would be more fun than a xs version - get the macro for a 2.8/50.
Maybe for Easter? or even better the 85 before Easter.

There's already the FA 43 Ltd, or the DA 70, so pancake primes in that focal range are available today. The DA 50, while not really pancake thin, is quite light and cheap as well.

Maybe the other DSLR companies would want to add something like this. Pentax already has it.
