Some really interesting lens design discussions in that article. From translation, they added more screws at the mount so that the lens is more stable at the mount. They reduced the coma and chromatic aberrations not to meet some chart specification goal but to improve AF performance. If this lens can combine super accurate autofocus, with Sigma art resolution, with FA limited magic, Pentax will have created the holy grail of primes.

That is not good news. I was hoping to buy this lens for a school project that is due end of April.
Are there not other lenses available today that will do the job? What made that project require this lens?

Just curious... the DA*55 seems really nice, and there's also the excellent 50 macro's.

Because this is Episode IV in Pentax' history - A New Hope. Making us say "look at the size of that thing!" would suffice... no need to go Starkiller base

Haha, nice try. LBA doesn't give up that easily.
Oh yes it does. She who I adore tells me I can go from see to want to need faster than anyone she knows.
I give in to LBA very easily and quickly.

So I am not alone in this level of affliction? I would say "nice to hear," but that would be mean in a schadenfreude sort of way.

I actually hope new lenses will be priced over what's comfortable for me, to save me from the agony of an empty wallet.

I don't either damn it. Wait, I don't have a WR 50. Shouldn't everyone have a WR 50?
I think you nailed it, and if you don't mind, I'd like to borrow the concept to help reinforce I am doing the right thing when I purchase it, I mean if I purchase it, no when....

I think we need to update the old axiom to death, taxes, and new lenses

maybe we should introduce some more definitions? There's CLBA = Chronic LBA which is a long term and incurable condition that can be controlled by regular doses of glass, not necessarily major interventions - old Takumars etc might be enough, and

Acute LBA - ALBA - a flare up of which is brought on by highly desirable new releases and requires a big injection of cash to abate it. Sufferers will be able to live a comparatively normal life until the next * lens comes along.

Sounds like you have CALBA

But honestly, the problem comes when someone like Chris Rankin gets a copy and turns out amazing images of his models or one of our landscape photographers starts capturing images of amazing scenery. Suddenly you think, "You know, if I just had that lens, it would probably put my photos over the top." Of course, that ignores the skill that those folks have in using their gear to its maximum, along with the resources they have -- beautiful vistas close by or access to models they have built up over time.

Any guess on the price?

Its probably going to be in the range of the 58mm f1.4 from Nikon or the new 85mm 1.4 from Canon. So $1600...

$1600? I'll wait for the 85. I do a lot of portraiture and will probably wait for that one to be released.
