The users have a lot of 50 mm lenses
None of them is fully satisfactory at K-1. There is a real need for a new 50mm lens.

It's fact that
Pentax and Tokina had signed the agreement about co-developing new lenses and really worked in that way.
According to whom? The patents don't say anything about Tokina designers, and co-development is unlikely since Pentax's lens design philosophy is somewhat unique in the industry.

I never understood the back and forth about who designs/licenses/builds etc lenses and if they are rebadges. Who cares if it takes great pictures and satisfies your needs?
Some of us appreciate the Pentax lens design philosophy, with its emphasis on perceptual image quality (rather than an obsession with numerical specs), and prefer Pentax designed lenses, for the improved rendering and the "memory colors."

I have experience shooting Olympus glass. Lenses like the Oly 17/1.8 and Oly 12/2 are very sharp, sharper even than the DA 15 and DA 21. Yet nonetheless images from the two DA limiteds consistently look better than what I've gotten from the very sharp Oly primes. I shoot Pentax primarily to have access to Pentax glass; and if Pentax becames merely a distributor of rebadged lenses, then my reason for remaining with Pentax would be significantly diminished. Fortunately, that's not going to happen. The DFA 15-30 and the DFA 24-70 are outliers made to fill a temporary gap rather than the new path going forward. Indeed, if Ricoh makes a go of K-mount FF, I fully expect, sometime further down the road, to see a DFA* 24-70 f2.8. Those who routinely suspect that every high end DFA lens Ricoh introduces has to be a rebadge of some other company's similar lens just don't understand how important the Pentax imaging philosophy is to those who design the cameras and lenses released under the Pentax label.

But.. if memory serves me well, my DFA 28-105 and many other FF lenses vignette on occasion. Is there a law that says no FF lenses ever vignette? That would be funny because my 18-135 vignettes on APS-c. The law would apply to FF buy not APS-c.

Just out of curiosity, at what point does the vignetting disappear?
When you enable the automatic corrections in camera for JPEG or on your PP software for Raws

No more vigneting, geometric aberations, chromatic aberations...

Im not talking about MY opinion only. I work towards the marked trying to sell in Pentax on a daily basis. Im speaking my experience about what people say and wants. A big difference there. You dont have to agree with them, but Ricoh does.

Just because you're opinion is the same as someone else's opinion does not mean it is the only opinion possible.

I currently have both APS-C (K-3II) and FF (K-1) cameras. I have resigned myself to the fact that if I want a more compact kit, I am gonna stick with crop, if i want ultimate quality (i.e. big and heavy) I will break out the K-1.
Leica is able to manage fantastic FF lenses that are also quite small. But the price isn't the same.

I simply see that all the DFA lenses so far have been very large.
I have some hope, as this isn't true. The D-FA 100 Macro and the D-FA 28-105 are both rather compact.

I suspect that the long years of having only APS-C bodies has made many of us forget the importance of having a good, fast 50mm lens in the 35FF lineup. Paradoxically, for those of us with a history of film-era lenses, having a 50mm * lens is also an anomaly, as the FA* range did not include such a lens.

Ricoh could have started the new DFA * range of unifocal lenses with something else, but my guess is that they decided the shorter FL lenses would be more complex and time-consuming to design, and probably wouldn't be faster than the DFA24-70 or DFA15-30. Similarly, a fast 85 or 135 would be very expensive and would probably benefit from the design experience with the DFA*50. It makes no sense to build new f2.8 lenses in that range, when the newer zooms cover it very well, so f1.8 and/or f1.4 are probably required.

APS-C will never be as good as FF..and for many, MF is to much/expencive. So FF was very much needed to get Pentax forward.

They will continue to make APS-C too..but that alone won't get Pentax up there
I fully understand that but this doesn't mean I have to follow. It doesn't make sense to buy the APSC gear from Pentax because they have great FF. And honestly that more the opposite. People got in Pentax for what was available: great APSC lineup, small/light limited, affordable WR lenses...

If Pentax transform into Canikon with Signa sized lenses, that fine, but if that's not what I want (and basically not 90% of the market want) why follow them? Nothing wrong with concentrating on pro and tests charts. Just not for everyone.

So I clearly hope they will continue to cover their historical user base too. If they don't, I'll switch one day or another. But I hope that'll not be the case.

The appearance of the KP is fairly good evidence of their immediate commitment, and you'll rarely get more evidence than that in a commercial market.

I want tiny primes like the DA Limiteds. That's the main reason I have no interest in switching to full frame. </grump>

I dont think you understand what I'm talking about..Sorry. It has nothing to do with what i or you mean. And when did i say it was the only option? It is the option that has the priority AT THIS MOMENT! ..Better?

Can we get weather sealing on them?

I mean, I'm shooting in the rain either way, but it's nice not having to worry (as much).

But i think i stay away from this discussion..Yet again some people seems to be negative and use all their energy to explain why the new stuff is wrong and not needed. I am both happy and positive for the progress Pentax is making and that they see what is important..for most people in the marked.

Someone will NEVER be happy unless they can have it the way it always have been...bah...
