If Ricoh wants to promote the K1 as a pro camera, it would be lovely if they could standardize filter thread diameters across lenses, so far we have 49mm (FA 35mm, FA 43mm, FA 50mm, DFA 50mm Macro, FA 77mm, DFA 100mm Macro), 58mm (FA 31mm), 62mm (DFA 28-105mm), 77mm (DFA* 70-200mm, DA* 200mm, DA* 300mm), 82mm (DFA 24-70mm), 86mm (DFA 150-450mm) & 112mm (DA 560mm).

This seems to me overly complicated, and with the addition of the new DFA* 50mm lens with a 72mm filter thread, even more so. If this is a prototype lens, I along with other Pentax Pro's would appreciate either upping the filter thread to 77mm like the other DFA*/DA* lenses, or releasing all new DFA* primes with 72mm filter threads. Otherwise, this lens seems to be thoroughly impressive at first glance.

Glad Ricoh is listening to my advice

Any refreshes of existing lenses won't be on the roadmap.

We're in 2017. If someone wants compact and lightweight, the're much better options available than a FF DSLR, no matter the brand. And on the other hand, if someone buys a FF DSLR as the K-1, it's probably because he doesn't -or shouldn't- care that much about size than top IQ. Although I understand people loving "small lenses", most will not buy a K-1 system because they want small and lightweight. They will only buy it if it can provide top IQ over the competition, and this need top glasses no matter the size.
Are you implying that (necessarily, or most often) there is a rational choice involved?

Sigma Art is only sharpness and nothing else.

I have some hope, as this isn't true. The D-FA 100 Macro and the D-FA 28-105 are both rather compact.
Good point. Though I don't really count the 100 macro WR, as it was not a recent development (was it created during the Hoya ownership or even before that?)

Can we get weather sealing on them?
Yes, please!

I have no experience with the Ltd glass yet. But, even though they might be great optically, I don't think they can go head to head with never higher res lenses that resolve more of the modern high mp sensors.
I can confirm that the DA21 can hold its own and outresolve the K-3's 24 MP sensor with small pixels. The DA 40 LTD and FA77 can both outresolve the K-1's sensor (the DA40 is weaker in the corners but it's not a FF lens in theory).

But the quality of these lenses is not their absolute sharpness, even though they are not lacking. It is their rendering. I'd be willing to sacrifice some test chart performance to preserve the so-called pixie dust.

You can't expect a 1.4 lense to be as compact as the 28-105..come on

ogl: If you want a travel lens for a K1, there's a 43, 50, the 50 Macro, and a 55 that are all smaller. 29 pages and you're repeating "it's large" which has been pretty well established at this point.

I think this is an awesome step in progressing the Pentax full frame ecosystem. It's not a lens *for me* but I think it's an excellent product to have available *for us*. Cheer up.

If we're only going to go by f-stop as a reason to make a lens a certain size, the FA50 1.4 would like to have a word with you.

People are going to relate things in size to other things. A few days ago I posted about how the new Sigma 14 f1.8 weighs more than the Pentax/Tamron 15-30. A few people commented about how that was crazy stuff, for Sigma to make such a heavy lens. How could this not be comparable?

I know, I know, the 28-105 was designed by Pentax, the company known for smaller and lighter lens than the competition. Oh, wait...

What a horrible horrible image that is. I feel very depressed. There is no justification for a 50mm prime to be that big.
