Just get the FA 50mm F1.4. Lighter cheaper and more character.

You're right. But it is also available so you don't have to wait and it is based on a design made to compete with the best zeiss lenses of the time. (not the nineties but the sixties). Even if you are going to get the new 50, one of the Takumar of Pentax 50 1.4 lenses is a must have for every Pentaxian. It oozes Pentax.

The Sigma 50 1.4 that was available in k-mount seems like an excellent performer as well. Either that or the DA*55 would get my attention if I was okay with moving away from the light and small F or FA50's or the DA50 1.8. Or one of the 50 Macro's. Or or or.

So many choices here!

This was my choice, after much investigation. Although it was not the best at all apertures, it was the best wide open, and excellent in all. And since I was buying the lens for low light situations, wide open performance was an important criterion.

I'm also curious what the Sigma 50 EX Macro is like to use. Not that there aren't good options from Pentax already in that department.

It's a scene with lots of shade. Plus exposure compensation is set to -1. So darkness is an artistic choice.

Plenty of images (in the K-1 Lab and elsewhere) show little problems with the corners in FF mode.

Those "K-1 lab" photos are really terrible, for any lens. I think Ricoh really dropped the ball on that site, it is not a good advertisement. Checking the forum here for user reports, the sample photo gallery, the "DA lenses on Full frame" thread, the user lens reviews, etc. is much better to get a good idea about a lens' performance
