There is also a square piece of whate masking tape before word "Pentax" on the display stand.
To mask the 'HD' mention? They had left it on the golden ring.

Funny: there is again a piece of tape on the golden ring after "50mm".
I think they just hadn't told the golden ring makers just how big the effing lens was ;D

So big! Compare that to the FA 50mm f1.4 or DA 50mm f1.8.. what a giant! Hope it makes lots of sharpness-seekers happy

My expectation would be that this lens would be sharper than either of those lenses, have weather sealing, faster (and silent) auto focus, less vignetting, and obviously quick shift capability. Whether that is worth an extra 800 dollars probably depends on the photographer.

The bigger question in my mind is going to be the comparison between it and the DA *55 which has weather sealing and quick shift, but has fairly slow auto focus, quite a bit of vignetting on full frame and is a little weak on the edges wide open.

You are right, QS is great. BUT! You need AF/MF button for Catch in focus. For some users, that can be important. I miss that button on DFA 100mm WR

Sony has a +/- 70MP FF sensor coming and I'm sure Ricoh and everyone else is designing for 100MP resolution. Its going to be a big lens.

One day someone is going to release a new mount with a curved sensor and that will reduce the size and cost of the glass needed by a considerable amount.

Indeed! And that will spark a new round of hand wringing in the Pentax world when Ricoh doesn't immediately drop the K-mount and design an entirely new mount and lens system. There wil be threads on "When will Pentax release a curved sensor camera?", "Is there a future for flat sensor cameras?" and many a "Pentax is DOOOOOMED" uttered.

Meanwhile us Pentaxians will continue to take great photographs with flat sensor cameras while bandwagon followers hope that buying a curved sensor will magically make the images better.

It never ends!

Inre: that white tape on the product card, why would they put "HD" before "Pentax"? Is it to cover up, what, "Asahi"?

Because that's what they're doing. See: Lens list for Digital single-lens reflex camera / Lens lineup/ Lenses / Products | RICOH IMAGING

Regarding a curved sensor, I see 2 issues with that:
- it can only be optimized for one focal length (I guess that's an oversimplification)
- current lenses (native or adapted) won't work
IMO it's rather a solution for a fixed lens camera.

On that list da*200 and da*300 are listed as aps-c and not fullframe. Was that correct?
