Do you need true full frame?
I bought the 55 and the vignetting on FF is bad. Unusable in infinity focus between 1.4 - 3.5.

Then we could all joint the "1.2 only" club. They'd hate that. They think they are special.

I think they are paying Pentax not to make a 1.2.
The best special club members are the guys who shoot an A50/1.2 at f/5.6 and claim it is a better image.

Hope it's not another 18 months before this hits the street. (looking at the DFA 70-200)
Read it and weep

Good to know.....
I retracted part about the 55.... but retain the parts about the 85, 135 and 150.

But.. if memory serves me well, my DFA 28-105 and many other FF lenses vignette on occasion. Is there a law that says no FF lenses ever vignette? That would be funny because my 18-135 vignettes on APS-c. The law would apply to FF buy not APS-c.

Just out of curiosity, at what point does the vignetting disappear?

I'm also wondering how likely it is for this lens to be used at infinity.?

the vignetting looks fine...

They aren't shot at infinity, true, but how many 55 images are?

And is it just me or is the DA*55 not listed in the Image Database... like how weird is that?

Don't remember exactly, but I bought the lens on Amazon and returned it after a day.

I saw that people on the forum were saying it was good to go on FF but nothing could be further from the truth... unless you want all your pictures to look like old-timey saloon portraits.

Awesome. Now where is the matching 35mm F/1.4 and the 85mm F/1.4? I want a 24mm F/1.4 first.

I always wonder why do we need to shoot infinity focus AND wide open f 1.4? Stars in night sky? 50mm is too long for that.

Most 1.4 lenses, from film area so we should call them FF lens, vignettes a lot if focus to infinity and wide open. they are not designed for that.

If a lens is sharp enough at 1.4-1.8 within 15 feet, I am fine if it needs stopping down when focus to infinity.

Might be the case, but that is just the most extreme example. Vignetting was substantial stopped down as well.

Everyone's got different requirements – for me, it was just too much to be acceptable.

Also the DA*55 isn't a film lens, I don't think.

Could that be a sigma rebrand? I know sigma sells the 50 in k-mount, but the size seems suspiciously similar.

Agree. I do not remember when was the last Pentax ★prime issued. 7 years? 8 years? It looks huge so that it apparently uses a large image circle (like Ottus 55 1.4 which almost covers 645 MF format) to make it sharp from center to corner...

DA55 is not a film lens. it is not even officially an FF lens.
What I said was, even film lenses perform similarly, so it is expected, because designer did not carry such requirement when making the lenses.

We care about the numbers from test chart too much these days. It forces lens maker building monsters like sony, sigma...

These were the exact pictures I looked at before I bought the lens. When I tried it on my K1 the results were not the same. Was very unhappy.

But I'm totally okay with others finding it useful. Not looking to start a fight – just wasn't for me.
