Why is a normal 50mm f1.4 a star lens? I would understand if it was f1.2 but f1.4 is so common. With star lens comes star price.

Oh come on now.. please don't start complaining about size or price. They offer us a Sigma equivalent and now people don't want it? * rating means it's going to be * quality. You don't get that for bargain basement prices or size these days.

I hope there is more than 1 lens discussed during CP+ though.. 20/24/85 ? Bring them onnnn.

i found the 55mm to vignette with the hood on, especially when underexposed, which is sometime necessary. that plus the CA made it unacceptable for me, so i sold it. no arguing with it's resolving power though. now i have a k 50mm 1.2 and it's wonderful. if the new 50mm has ca under control, it will be a welcome addition.... unless it's $1200, then i'll pass. the more lenses the better, keep 'em coming, even if they're not for me.

It appears to be even larger. (OK, had to google whether it was just an unfortunate typo or a term I had not heard in this context.)

From what I understand lens rentals quoted by some one, all manufactures have about a 4% rate for their lenses being defective upon delivery. That's 1 on 25. It sure sounds like you were one of the lucky ones. I think Rondec has both a K-1 and a DA* 55, maybe he'll weigh in.

Another DA*55 on K-1 image

There's lots of evidence this lens does fine on a K-1, unless it's defective.

55 1.4 is not very expensive. 50mm F1.4 should not be above $1000.0... I think $800 might be a reasonable price...

But they want something more than a sliver in focus...
TFW you focus on the eye and you can only get 1/2 the eyelash sharp.

That may very well be the case. I sold it on and stayed without a normal prime. I decided that if there wasn't something ready to sell by CP+ I would just pick up the 43mm ltd.

After I saw this announcement, I went over to the marketplace and someone had just listed a 43mm in mint condition, so I snapped that sucker up.

That's the thing... if you don't have a lot, anything you get is good.

You will find FA 43 has same, if not worse dark corners as you have seen on DA55. -- It does not mean the FA 43 is a bad one, they are just designed that way.

It is to me. I bought a DFA 50 macro instead. I lose the wider f stops but gain macro and super sharp images at f2.8. 50mm used to be a 'cheap' lens for people starting out but is now a premium lens.
