The DA *200 and 300 not only are full frame compatible, they have lens profiles for the K-1. The DA *55 is usable in full frame, but does not have a lens profile for full frame on the K-1, only when it is in crop mode. But why would you care, Ron? You aren't shooting with Pentax gear now, anyway.

The DA*55 is more than useable, it's brilliant. I accept that it produces enough vignetting in some situations to preclude it from being officially FF compatible, but it is 99% perfect.

The DFA*50 will have to be stellar before I consider an upgrade.

Rondec and Sandy, the DA*55 was measured (I think by Photozone) as having the same or less vignetting wide open than the FA31 Ltd, the FA 50 f1.4 and the FA 77. It's a great lens, I know you're both aware of that, I bought mine partly because of your pictures with it.

Nevertheless, if people do want to be product activists, as many as possible should instead buy this upcoming D FA 50, otherwise future lens development may be jeopardized.

I have no doubt that the D-FA* 50mm lens will be optically excellent. I just hope the AF motor proves to be very fast. Since selling my Olympus E-3 and 35-100 F/2 I have had little interest in getting another zoom, but the D-FA* 70-200mm has been an excellent lens in just about every way. I imagine the D-FA* primes will be even better.

Regardless, Pentax has officially stated that the 200 and 300 are full frame by giving lens profiles for them for full frame, while they have not done so for the 55. I think I, too, will stick with the DA *55, as it is bound to be a quarter the size of the DFA prime and I don't shoot wide open much, anyway.

They are not listed in shops as fullframe at the moment. That means that people from outside this little bubble don't know that they are for the K-1 and thus not considder buying them. Do I care? Well not to much, but I would correct that error, since it would promote sales.

His ass. The Canon 50 f1.2 L is $1150 per their website, and that should be the standard. anything around or above that is too expensive. The only way I'd consider paying more than $1000 is if they changed the aperture to f1.2

I would be less rude in your place. Who knows, maybe people would remember these posts when the lens will be announced.

If we look at other manufacturers' top-range 50mm-ish lenses:
- Canon has only the aging 50mm f/1.2 (launch price: 1600$). They're out of this game.
- Leica is obviously on another planet
- Nikon's 58mm, launch price 1700$
- Sigma's new 50mm Art, 950$ but that's a third party
- Sony, 2 lenses (FE and KM/Alpha), 1500$
IMHO there's no way a brand new premium D FA* 50mm f/1.4 could be less than $1000. Sorry, folks, you better start saving up.

By the way, the amount of money a certain individual is willing to pay, and the price of a product are two different things.

The Zeiss Milvus 50mm f1.4 is selling for 1200 and my guess is that they are shooting for that sort of level, both with regard to quality and price. 1500 does seem a bit steep though for a 50mm lens, but as has been mentioned elsewhere, we still have the DA 50, FA 50, and DA *55 available if the price is too high.

I think they are shooting for the Pentax level between Otus and Milvus. as its filter thread is 72mm (Otus 77, Milvus 67).

I feel like this is one of those products where a price difference of, say, $1000 vs. $1200 won't stop the folks that are really in the market for this lens from buying it. And the pricing isn't announced yet so this is all just guessing and making noise.
