.
Now that's a tough one. I would take the 18-135 off to use the 28-105 for an appropriate landscape image. But landscape is only part of what I do with the 18-135. But, it's a better lens in it's focal range. Usually not enough to change lenses for, unless I'm seeing a large print quality scene. It pretty much lives on the K-1.

But in our comparison tests, on the K-1 shot at 50mm and the K-5 shot a 35, the images were indistinguishable at 2650x1600. It has the kind of spacial characteristics you expect from an FA ltd. Lots of 3D pop even on a landscape.

The 18-135 is a better walk around snapshot, pseudo macro, do everything lens. I shoot it way too often at 20mm or 135mm to dream i could get away with the 28-105 on the K-3. Plus where the 18-135 is stellar at 24mm, the 28-105 doesn't even go there.

28-105 is the weakest at its long end though. The 28-80mm range is the best for my copy at least. At 105 it's definitely softer wide open than 28mm which is very sharp even at 3.5

Nothing like the 18-135 though. Personally I rarely need telephoto images to be sharp corner to corner, thus my happiness with both the 18-135 and 28-105.

I'm happy with the lens, and it's not unusable at all. I like to make panoramas and use telephoto a lot for landscapes though. I still use it, just sharing my observations

Looking at the very basics, the D-FA 28-105 has four more elements than the FA 28-105. Same number of groups. So maybe they're fairly related... but the FA doesn't score very well in user reviews here, where as the D-FA does quite well. Maybe some similarities but I doubt there's much shared.
I doubt it too. The constaints, objectives and technique used greatly changed. The DC motor for example mean quite different focussing group. The focus on digital mean sharpness and chromatic corrections are key. FF being high end mean also that even as kit lens, relatively the lens can be more expensive and so be overall better.

My K-1 and I have been waiting for this thing since February. Courtesy of Pentax, I've learned to become a more patient man. That said, is there any idea on when this might actually go on sale? Is hoping for 2018 being too optimistic?

Before March 2018? If you read back through the thread there was some discussion of this.

It's supposed to be announced during Ricoh's current fiscal year, which goes from April 1st, 2017 to March 31st, 2018.

A public presentation during CP+ (Yokohama, March 1st-4th, 2018) is as good a guess as any.

Oh wow, that's so long to wait. I guess I can start buying other lenses I wanted, seems I'll have plenty of time to save up for that one if it's that far off lol.

For those who waited 10 years for the K-1 to come out, it's drop in the bucket.

I'm not that patient, I've switched from MFT where new bodies drop every 6 months and development is a lot faster in general.

As with the K-1 and the D-FA* 70-200mm, it will probably be late. Ricoh makes great stuff, they just can't seem to make great and stay on schedule. With the D-FA* 50mm they gave themselves the entire fiscal year of 2017 to get it out on time. If they make it my the end of the 2017 fiscal year I will be impressed and that will be a huge improvement over previous high end gear.

Wasn't someone saying both the Canon 6D MkII and Nikon D850 have been delayed despite the hype?

Let camera companies launch when they're ready, thank you, as customers we benefit from thoroughness!
