DA★ lenses are AW, which is a higher protection grade than WR.

so far - I was partly interested as AW would imply internal zoom/focus, WR not

The new ring-type SDM is a very good piece of news.
That at least is really new tech for them. More torque means more speed.

The new ring-type SDM confirms what I heard and reported here in September:

The development of this new motor would be / would have been taking longer than expected, some difficulties being / having been experienced and Ricoh Imaging being uncompromising about its performances.

Market launch: planned for summer 2018

So we are almost still a year away.

This German press release says basically the same as the US one with one exception: both lenses are said to be available in Summer 2018 instead of the 50mm in Spring and the 11-18mm in Summer.

I notice that it was the same minimum focusing distance as the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art - must be a rebadge

EDIT: - I just want to make it absolutely clear that this remark was not intended to be taken seriously - apologies for any consternation caused

Given the life of these lenses, a year is nothing. Everyone complains because there are no Pentax announcements and Pentax doesn't tell us what they are doing. Then when they do announce early, we claim a year is too long to wait. It doesn't matter what Pentax does, its not good enough for some members of the forum.

Hey, I'm hoping for at least another 25 years.... but, "Don't buy anything you can't wear out before you die" is getting to be a consideration.
