The lens is definitely on my "consider it" list when it comes out. Looks huge in the photo, like a medium format lens. Might not need it, but I'll probably want it.

Well.. I wouldn't say that. However, I've come to the conclusion it sure beats arguing points and products (such as cameras) that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things with someone who isn't going to change their point of view and knowing you're not going to change your point of view. It is just a waste of time.

This is unusual - have we seen public discussion and product photos of unreleased Pentax lenses before? Ricoh hasn't even announced final specs or an availability date for this lens.

Yes, by the very same Kimio Tanaka, the lens being the late Pentax-09 Telephoto Macro (Q lens, apparently abandoned and stillborn):

That is what you would usually call a rumor... only Pentax forum rumors have to be cleared by Pentax. Everything else is called purely speculative.

I meant a blogger (Kimio Tanaka) posting photos, specs and sample images of an unreleased lens. Sometimes we'll see leaked publicity shots of a soon-to-be-released lens, but this is much more detailed. Clearly it is a pre-production (or beta) lens sample, but it is very unusual for a lens to be described so publicly before even an official ship date has been announced.

This is not a rumour.... and not cleared by Pentax.... although the guy clearly has access to the lens designer.

If it is a rumour it's one of the prettiest looking rumours I've ever seen.

Pity it's not an 85mm F1.4 lens. That would be something to get excited about. Given how slow the lenses are being released it would have been nice to fill in more logical holes. 20mm prime for example.
