Lovely out-of-focus highlights!

Having said that, does anyone else notice they're not perfectly circular? The edge of the lower left quarter of each highlight seems non-circular. Could simply be on the prototype, I suppose. Anyway, very minor... Overall, it looks great!

The article says, it is taken with f2, so possibly we are seeing something of the aperture here?

No cat eye bokeh balls though, fairly round across the frame, pretty impressive!

Gotcha. I wonder why they didn't go for rounded blades (or maybe they did?)... Not that it really matters. Looks very good indeed

Looks like the bokeh is fantastic and consistent. Uh-oh. Starting to want it now. The accompanying text repeats that it's planned to be available in spring, by the way. Sounds like it's still on schedule.

The final version might have rounded blades. More important is that you don't see any Longitudinal chromatic aberration. I hope we see more tests shots soon... Screw that I want to see the lens soon.

Right, now this seems to become the one classic 85 1.8 short tele lens for lovely bokeh and all this stuff to be even desireable for me as a KP shooter with no intention to go larger. Thank you Ricoh, I thought of going the more cost sensitive way with this decision and you might ruin it.

How can I understand that? Do you mean the image is okayish but could be better with a 12 blade design, or do you mean the imgage shows that the design is a fail, or you suggest they should go back to the drawing board and bring a better design? Uhoh!

Probably due to distortion, coma and the shape of aperture blades. If that is f2, its actually pretty good in the centre, very few lenses have such nice circles slightly stopped down, especially in FF edges. My old M 50mm f1.7 has harsh star-hexagons between f2 and f3 and my other old normal lenses can be quite distorted in edges (even on APSC).
And we don't know if the lens that took that photo is the same as we will be getting on the shelves. It might still have experimental aperture blades or some elements might not be fully tweaked.
This sample photos is very encouraging.

How good is 3D pop on the chain. This lens is looking like a non schizophrenic version of my beloved 43ltd.
