And 16 blades are better than 12...

But, 9 blades are better than 6, and they look to be doing a rather good job, wouldn't you say?

I managed to justify my 15-30 purchase, I'm guessing I just need to give her few months to forget how much that costs and I can attempt to sneak this lens into my annual budget

Since I just bought the Sony-Zeiss 50mm F/1.4 ZE form my A9 you can bet the D-FA* 50mm F/1.4 lens will start shipping any day now. Since I bought an A9, Ricoh will now release a K-1 replacement with better AF than the Nikon D5. You guys should thank me.

Oooh. Nice lens. Was looking at that today... I don't have any native E-mount glass - only A-mount and older adapted lenses. But that 50/1.4 ZE looks nice, and there some deals around <sigh>

c'mon, too fast, they'd be doing a year and a half of teasing first.

Maybe it's not teasing? Maybe it just takes them this long to develop and release stuff, as a smaller manufacturer with fewer product development staff?

What should they do... not say what they have in development, and be criticised for not developing it - or say what they're developing and be criticised for taking so long? They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't - at least, so far as some of our members are concerned. And the moment they partner with another lens manufacturer to get a high quality zoom lens out to market fast enough for the K-1 release, they get shot down because it's not an in-house lens, and costs more than the actual manufacturer's own version.

I'm not saying they shouldn't get a move on with things. Of course they should. But I suspect they're working as quickly as possible with the manpower they have available

It was made very clear to me last night that asking for forgiveness is not sufficient and I should have asked for permission first...

Well yes, that’s how it works. Don’t let it stop you. :

You need to come up with a sales pitch. With the 50, it’s a relatively easy one for me since I am a junkie for that focal length.
Since I have that focal length on my camera most of the time, it makes sense to have the best one I can get. Also, this isn’t the only place I grouse about the lack of a fast standard from Pentax. Its been an all consuming thing for me since the *istD. It drove me to buy into Fuji to get a 35/1.4 on APS-C. I suspect my wife will be relieved to hear the end of it.

I have my Pentax D FA 50mm F 2.8 Macro and Pentax 50mm FA F 1.4 and my 40mm F 2.8 Limited. I'm very happy with them. All of them. I know they're not the latest and greatest but all three are excellent lenses in my humble opinion, particularly my 40 Limited, which by the way I use on both my ASP-C bodies and my K1....I use only the full frame and not the croped frame setting with this ASP-C lens. Works out really well.

I succumb to uncontrollable lens fever as much as the next guy...but I just can't see myself plunking down for the new 50mm which is supposed to be coming down the pike. When I've got three Pentax lenses...all with automatic focus...and yes it's a must have feature for my old eyes...why would I want a new lens in that most common of prime focal lengths ?

How can I understand that? Do you mean the image is okayish but could be better with a 12 blade design, or do you mean the imgage shows that the design is a fail, or you suggest they should go back to the drawing board and bring a better design? Uhoh!
It's just a joke. 12 is more than 9. That's why more is better

No cat eye bokeh balls though, fairly round across the frame, pretty impressive!
