The pentax 15-30 and 24-70 clearly have different coatings than the tamrons. The reflective tint is green like other pentax lenses vs yellow of the tamron. A direct comparison was made on an adapted sony that show a marked improvement in flare resistance HD24-70mmWR-006 | Robert Mitchell | Flickr

I really hope the DFA*85/1.4 doesn't get postponed.

The debate was not so much about the “who” as the “what”. So far, it seems, the differences between the Tamron and Pentax versions are the removal of the stabilisation drive and the substitution of the Pentax lens coatings. We should also add the cost of the KAF3 mount itself and the associated electronics. Let’s not forget that both Tamron and Sigma do not make any of their more recent lenses available in K-mount because they can’t make sufficient profit on that, for the expected sales volumes, so the price must rise to accommodate that.

Still, there seem to have been sufficient sales of the 24-70 and 15-30 at the higher prices to keep Ricoh interested. I expect the same to occur for the 50 and the 85, when the latter arrives.

I have come close to pulling the trigger on an FA*85 several times but my LBA ran into my bank balances and lost. (Thank goodness!) I need to build up my reserves again before spending on a lens and the next purchase is probably going to be the DA* 11-18.

I would have thought that they would be a staple part of your diet now after those purchases!

The real prize for me is the 85. A 135/2 would be awesome as well.

I agree but I fear the 85 may not appear until late 2019 or later.

Typically, 85mm and up is easier to design than 50mm and under when dealing with highly corrected lenses. I would hope they can get the 85mm out quicker.

Well..... a nice thing about waiting for this to come to fruition is it gives time to save money after buying the DFA 50 1.4.

Based on the what we have seen from the 50mm 1.4 just released, does anyone have any comment on how that lens affects their opinion of the upcoming 85 1.4? I have not read much on the 50mm 1.4 yet, but some photos that I have seen have been very impressive!

Based on what I’ve seen it would be great if the new 85 had similar performance.

The new fifty will be the foundation of future Star primes like the 85mm - the reference design.
