I think the DA 60-250 will probably be slowly be taken out as inventory clear out, replaced by the 70-200/4.

The thing with the current line-up is that it makes difficult choosing lenses because none is really comparable to the other. The 70-200/2.8 is fast and big. 60-250 has more reach and slower, but not very light either !

Making lenses with similar base spec and variation around it makes it easier to compare and choose, and buy
That would be a shame. Why would I give up 60mm of focal length for a lens that probably wouldn't be any better? The DA*60-260 is FF, heavy and heavily corrected. What they should do is redesign the 60-250 case to be full frame compatible and ad a modern DC motor, the design of the glass doesn't need to be changed at all.

Given the number of lenses we don't have, the DFA 70-200 ƒ4 ia waste of time and effort.

It might be so, but maybe thay are really thinking of FF user base here. Besides, 60/70 is not that dramatic difference, and 200-250 is not stellar with that lens... What they should renew with better AF an all, would be 50-135. There is also, what I have heard superb 55-300 PL WR option now for APS-C.

But it is great lens(60-250) and you can still buy it new.

I honestly think that 70-200/4 is good way to go. Lighter, good performance, smaller than 70-200/2.8 and cheaper. But it could have waited for one year more, instead of 85/1.4. and 35(if it will be 35)

This is actually what I also ment. if it was just rebadge, it would be as quick as 15-30 and 24-70, which was quick. Coatings and technical little things does not change that. But IF they have to work several months...then it is completely different thing..
But it looks like they've been working on something for more than just a few months. Here's a few things to consider. We know that Masakazu Saori designed the DFA* 70-200 (introduced in 2016) and then commenced working on the DFA* 50. The DFA 28-105 was also released in 2016. What is the project team that produced that lens working on? What about the project team that gave us the DA 55-300, also released in 2016? What about the project team that produced the DFA 150-450, released three years ago? Or the DA 18-50, also released three years ago? And if there is a team currently working on implementing the Tokina designed 70-200 f4, what the heck was that team doing in 2017?

You just reiterate the point, none of us knows a freaking thing. If there is one really annoying about this type of speculation, it's that no-one knows what they don't know. Huge gaps in knowledge are filled in with assumptions. Yet people proudly trot out opinions, which could be best characterized as 95% speculation 5% ancient history. And people pronounce these opinions as if they have knowledge the rest of us don't.
What is Masakazu working on right now? Oh, you don't know? Then maybe you should quit pretending like you know something. I guarantee you he's working on a project, maybe more than one, maybe three or four. No one has any idea how it works over there in the Pentax labs. And yet we have all these know it alls pretending like they do. It's a colossal waste of ones and zeros.

Good thing the ones and zeros are cheap. Or maybe it would be better if they weren't. Would anyone actually pay to spread this drivel?

Tess, is that you?

The problem is, those of us who have been on the forum for a while have heard it all before, proposed by a rotating bunch of speculators who always sound credible, and who always flame out about the time reality proves them to be wrong. So which position is intolerable is open to debate.

If every one of them were to turn up and start posting at the same time, you'd know what intolerable really is.

Why does "suffering succotash" come to mind?

Do you drip spittle when you say "insufferable?"

Hey, I'm happy to be ignored, do you need instructions on how to do it?

They just might get retired, like norm.

After that humorous interlude, can I ask that we get back to the topic? With quite so many in thread comments I don't think there's much point in starting to hand out warnings for people becoming personal in their comments.
Let's stop that OK?

Since thread title is 85 also coming, suppose that this speculation is okay..

Well I suppose that they are having a lot going on. And need one more team. There is still on the 645 roadmap some lenses to come. Aswell as wide angle zoom and consumer 70-300...not to forget these 2 * lenses. And now even that *11-18 zoom is facing trouble..

Not to forget all of camera updates(and mark 2 update, which was too demanding too, because of unsuspected popularity.?). So they are cooking a lot. But those camera things are other than lens things

So there is a lot to be waited and to be done. And they need to do all of those with best quality..

Okay what is the point of 85mm large aperture lens for DSLR? AF performance is so-so with these lenses for CaNikon also. They hit what they hit. Not always the intended spot. For mirrorless system they could make some sense.

FI dunno, from the current lineup I personally miss the 70-200 ƒ4 the most, since the ƒ2.8 is too expensive and a bit too heavy. I am considering the 60-250, but I don't feel brave enough to make modifications to WR lenses.
