1. Ricoh never could offer optically better (and fast or super fast) lenses than Sigma Art for wide-angle.
2. All Sigma Art lenses are one of the best lenses at the modern market.
3. If Ricoh could produce DFA24/2 AW optically without flaws it will be the big surprise and success.
It's all.
There is no reason to believe that Ricoh can't produce a lens that is better than a Sigma ART lens. I'm a fan of the Sigma lenses and I bought the Sigma 50mm and 85mm F/1.4 lenses over the Pentax DA* 55mm and 77mm LTD. The D-FA* 70-200mm is optically as good as any lens in its class made by any company. The D-FA* 70-200mm does have a problem with minimal focus at 200mm, but optically it is amazing on the K-1. Ricoh has shown it can make top quality class. Ricoh has yet to show they can make it quickly.

Then you bought a bad copy. The lens is quite good for the money. Yes, the $2,200 Sony 24-70mm GM is better. Yes, the Canon 24-70L is better ($1,800.00) . Yes, the $2,400 Nikon is better than the $1,300 Pentax lens, but not by a whole lot. The Pentax does require more software correction and the build qulaity is not D-FA* quality, but its definitely worh the $1,300 it sells for.
