Ricoh (asahi man, kenspo, et. al.) have been quiet even for them recently. After the 70~210 disappointment I suspect we won't hear anything until the final version of either lens is production-ready.
What is the the 70~210 disappointment that you are referring here? Are you talking about the the D-FA 70-200 F2.8 lens? If yes, it is one of the best zoom lenses ever developed by Pentax. In fact it is very much comparable or even better than Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II. Unfortunately there are very few reviews or comments about this lens.

No the issue was the lens was delayed, and then delayed again. The end result was a quality lens, as Pentax had more time to get it right. But only after delays.

The point being any announcement of time to arrival will likely be inaccurate, thus frustrating many waiting for these products.

It is more painful to just wait, but it is also the only way to mitigate any complaints of 'You promised it would be released by _____' or the like as those estimated times seem difficult to meet.

There really is no easy out for Pentax here.. with a release date announced they either stick to it or they 'feel' the wrath of the forum. On the other hand, if they don't announce a release date, they 'feel' the wrath of the forum for lack of info... then things spiral into sky-is-falling threads.

They could just launch the Tamron designs like they did with the 24-70 and 15-30, which would mean quicker release timeframe (and a proven design). But then there are complaints that they are more expensive than their regular Tamron counterparts. Or that they are simply Tamron lenses and not actual Pentax lenses.

In the end, the best option for Ricoh is to sell Pentax to some wealthy venture capitalists, buy an island, and get away from us nuts.

My two sort of uneducated cents; the FA35 and FA43's being available today makes me think that the Tamron 35 and 45 1.8's are really not required. I think the 85 1.8 would make sense in today's k-mount land. That lens and something hot in the 20's would be where I would have targeted Pentax engineering firepower. D-FA*24 f2.0 anyone?
Yes, I think it's probably the way the company thinks, Pres.

Pentaxians are old farts with a weakness for legacy glass, so if they own the glorious FA31, FA43 and FA77 Limiteds which are all in current/recent production, those Tamron SPs may be too similar even with WR and inbuilt focus motors.

However, it's been quite a while since bigger FF Star primes came out ...

The reality is that very few people are paying attention to what Ricoh is doing. If they miss a release date by a year or two nobody outside of the very small group of people on the forums will even talk about it. Ricoh is amazingly close to having a very competitive system, but they seem reluctant to invest in the Pentax brand. There is no energy. No direction. No sense of urgency.

I think that's a very old attitude, Al260.

I own and enjoy the Tamron 90, 17-50, 28-75 and 70-200 lenses which were good even years ago (I own Sigmas, too - 17-50, 35, 105, 150-500).

The Tammy 15-30 f2.8 really shook things up, many saying it had replaced the Nikon 14-24 as the finest UW zoom in the world. Pentax jumped on it.

Tamron make a lot of the best lenses for Sony at the moment, too.

I just got the 15-30. Amazing lens. That's what really got me thinking that an 85 Tammy would be a great addition.

Anything that isn't on the roadmap? (I'd be happy with a "perhaps" meaning yes ).

I already said this year will be quiet... but the next will be hard on my wallet.
