Originally posted by emsee What is the the 70~210 disappointment that you are referring here? Are you talking about the the D-FA 70-200 F2.8 lens? Unfortunately there are very few reviews or comments about this lens.
No the issue was the lens was delayed, and then delayed again. The end result was a quality lens, as Pentax had more time to get it right. But only after delays.
The point being any announcement of time to arrival will likely be inaccurate, thus frustrating many waiting for these products.
It is more painful to just wait, but it is also the only way to mitigate any complaints of 'You
promised it would be released by _____' or the like as those estimated times seem difficult to meet.
There really is no easy out for Pentax here.. with a release date announced they either stick to it or they 'feel' the wrath of the forum. On the other hand, if they don't announce a release date, they 'feel' the wrath of the forum for lack of info... then things spiral into sky-is-falling threads.
They could just launch the Tamron designs like they did with the 24-70 and 15-30, which would mean quicker release timeframe (and a proven design). But then there are complaints that they are more expensive than their regular Tamron counterparts. Or that they are simply Tamron lenses and not actual Pentax lenses.
In the end, the best option for Ricoh is to sell Pentax to some wealthy venture capitalists, buy an island, and get away from us nuts.
