You can fill the frame with a bird flying with a 200mm prime on FF?

I would like to see all those shots, Ian.

How would you go with the 135mm prime Uluru was recommending?

Yes

With BIF I would recommend going with a lens that is half (at the very least) of the focal length you normally shoot a stationary bird, the area of the bird in the FOV can easily increase 2-3 times larger than that of the stationary bird.
If you are using a 300mm lens on cropped for your stationary work and the bird starts to fly or take off and you want the same buffer zone around the bird you need to adjust your FL at least in half so that 135mm lens would work if you use 300mm and your normal working distance from the subject.

Just consider DFA85 1.4 is a UWA lens for widelife.

I wouldn't say 85mm , but for BiF it is very hard to shoot with btween 400mm and 600mm, hence all the problems of AF tracking that Pentaxians report... essentially because it is very hard to keep the subject centered with a long lens...and so AF is a hit or miss. BTW, why not use the DFA70-200 f2.8.

Such an odd concept; most of my BIF shots are w/a 400mm or 500mm, even then I feel like I could have more reach every now and then, whether FF or APSC. Same w/my birder friends who are regularly published by NG, CG, Audubon, etc... their 600's might as well be glued to their camera bodies. I'll have to let them know they're doing it all wrong.

300 on a cropped body usually wind up clipping the subject for my style of shooting

300mm on FF and I have to be careful even with little birdies

No problema! I bought my A* 85 just for that. I was following a local group on their journey to fame (never reached the final station) in the eighties. (To the younger ones: "the eighties" refers to a decade in the previous century.) The lens is worn and torn on the outside. I've had it serviced once, and besides external looks it works just like day one. I used it as late as today, for concert shooting with my K-1. Just go out and knock it around!

Hahaha, I like your approach!
Maybe I'm too fetish with vintage glasses...
I'd like to use my most valued (and expensive!) lenses if/when there are the perfect conditions for their use... but most of the times I change my mind at the last minute, if I'm afraid the lens could get damaged.
The A* 85mm is one of my all time favorite, if I believe the environment would be... not so welcoming, I prefer to risk a cheaper (and easily replaceable) Samyang, and leave the Pentax home
Maybe it's a matter of imprinting In the late seventies/early eighties I shot countless punk concerts, and I remember fighting hard trying to defend my photographic gears and avoid being crushed by the crowd dancing pogo!
Once you have been through that kind of experiences, it's difficult to reset, forget about all that, and trust that the crowd won't crush your most treasured glasses.
Even at that time, when I was young and crazy, I never brought with me the very best. I worker as a dj, mostly at punk events, and I was in a rock group myself, so I knew very well what to expect...

Large aperture wide in single focus lens with gold bar on the roadmap. The Ultra wide is probably a 20mm F2.8 or something like that. That Fish Eye zoom look like it could be on the roadmap for a long time like DA wide zoom 12-2x. A full frame version of the 55-300 PLM is also coming. (F4-5.6 hopefully). Then de DA* 200mm is in need of replacement (but not fast because there is also the D FA* 70-200 which is prime sharp). What is missing most in the line up then is a 135mm and a F1.4 24mm. I would also like a second line of cheaper primes 24-28-35-50 (35 and 50 are really already here, just rename them to D FA). Eventually a D FA* 24-70 2.8 and a D FA 24-105 F4. And a light weight alternative to the D FA 15-30 2.8 (F4 or variable). Keep the limiteds. Make a modern version of the 50mm 1.4 (same optics but with HD coating and lens motor in the same style as the 20-40 2.8-4). As a go between the Plastic fantastic and the D FA*. The DA limiteds 70 and 40 should probably also be redone for full Frame. (Slightly larger for better corners). The Macro line up is fine but could use a better build quality and lens motors.

I know, you told us about this lens, thank you for that. But the D FA★ 35mm f/1.4 is insider information whilst the D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 and D FA★ 85mm f/1.4 are public information. My point to kenspo was that publicly available information alone pointed out to them "working on more than one prime".

The smiley at the end of my sentence was definitely deliberate .
