This is like : Sometimes i think i've won the lottery and then i wake up

Considering the DFA*50, it's absolutely unlikely that the 85mm will be small by any means.

LOL, was thinking the same.

I suppose it will probably be bigger still than the FA*85/1.4, the FA* not having a focusing motor built in?

To think that I got rid of my FA*85/1.4 because I didn't use it (too long FL on APS-C and to big, esp compared to my FA77/1.8), but that I'm now considering getting this DFA*85/1.4 anyway... Though my photography style *has* changed over the years. I'm actually putting off getting the cheapo Samyang 85/1.4 until more is known about the DFA*. I'm hoping it will not be released at the same time as the DA*11-18/2.8, or I'll be in for a difficult choice...

I had a look of FA*85 in one camera shop at china. I actually was surprised of how 'small' it was. New DFA*85 will be bigger than that for sure. I suppose my DFA*70-200 has changed the way that I look at lenses and their size.

I love my cheapo Rokinon, mainly because it works better than its price suggests.

That said, I will almost certainly never be in the market for the DFA. I just don’t use that focal length enough.

If I were in the market for the DFA, I would probably pick up a used FA or Sigma if I needed something now, hoping to sell it for close to what I paid for it after the DFA ships.

There are just too many compromises associated with the manual focus of the Samyang/Rokinon if you are invested in high-end portraiture.

I think it much more likely that I will end up going for the Samyang/Rokinon indeed. I actually like their products a lot (I have the 16/2, 24/1.4, 24 T/S and 135/2). But I'm keeping my options open on the 85mm front for the moment. The project I would use the 85/1.4 for is one I'll shoot near my home whenever I have the lens. Hence no deadlines/pressure involved...

After spending hours reading all the stuff about the Z7 and Z6, it's nice to be reminded that photography isn't all about cameras

For some photography is business. Just saying. Good to have lot of different options thou, even if it might cost you some €€€, which you will not spend because there are also other options you might already have

Define "real business".

A friend from Toronto who did many catalogues, Sears, Eatpns , Canadian Tire went digital many years ago, He used a tethered set up with his image sent straight to the catalogue art directors so they could make any changes required before the models left the set, or the product had been moved from it's studio set. That was more than 15 years ago now. Was that "real business?"

Real business is commercial for top magazines, companies like Newsweek, Coca Cola, Toyota, Microsoft etc. I wrote about the largest money from photography and budgets in milions dolars.
